City Council unanimously passed a resolution yesterday to create a program that would allow tenants facing eviction access to legal assistance in the courts, from the Richmonder.

A 266-unit housing development was also approved in the Swansboro neighborhood. Supportors of the effort included the pro-housing group, YIMBY (Yes to People. Yes to Housing. Yes in my backyard).

The special use permit was approved 8-1, with council member Stephanie Lynch, who represents the district where development would be built, voting no and voicing concerns with the project.

the dive:

The first bill of the 2025 General Assembly has been introduced, according to Dave Ress at the RTD.

The bill was proposed by a former high school history teacher, Delegate Lee Ware, and would require students to pass a civics test prior to receiving a diploma. The test would be similar to the one taken by those applying for U.S. Citizenship.

The proposal would require students to score correctly on 70% or more of a set of 25-50 questions selected from the list.

Currently seven states have similar laws, and an additional nine states require the test but not as a condition of graduation.
