South Broad Stadium Funding, Beer & Wrecker Board, and More

GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • On February 27 the council will vote on the approval of a Memorandum of Understanding relating to the financing of the South Broad stadium. The full MOU can be found here.

FEBRUARY 20 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • The council heard a presentation on the latest South Broad Stadium financing agreement. The council plans to vote on this agreement on February 27.
  • The council heard a presentation about proposed changes to the city Beer and Wrecker Board. The most notable change is that Wrecker hearings will be transferred to the Passenger Vehicle for Hire board. The council plans to vote on these changes on February 27.
  • Councilwoman Berz, chairwoman of the Budget and Finance Committee, presented the FY 2025 budget process. The council will receive the proposed budget from the mayor’s office on April 30.
  • The council heard a presentation from the city court clerk office.

  • The council approved an amendment to the city code, dissolving the Board of Sign Appeals and moving its duties to the Board of Zoning Appeals (final reading).
  • The council voted on a number of rezoning requests (final reading), including the approval of a request to rezone 6240 Airpark Drive from C-2 to UGC for the conversion of a hotel into permanent affordable housing.
  • The council approved an amendment to the city code governing Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in the Form Based Code area (final reading).
  • The council approved an amendment to speed limits on Gray Road (35mph to 30mph), Walker Road (35mph to 30mph), and Holtzclaw Road (40mph to 35mph) (final reading).
  • The council voted on a number of rezoning requests (first reading), including:
    • deferring a request to rezone 608 and 614 Central Ave from R-3 to UGC until May 7.
    • approving a request to rezone 1400 North Chamberlain Ave from R-1 to R-3 for the construction of a new apartment building, with conditions related to onsite security, background checks, affordable housing, and greenspace.
  • The council deferred a number of amendments to the section of city code governing the construction of streets and sidewalks until March 5 (first reading).
  • The council withdrew a request of an additional $36M in debt obligations to fund the new Lookouts Stadium until February 20.
  • The council approved a number of use, donation, and grant agreements (see agenda for full details).
  • The council approved 5 routine purchases, including a $1.3M purchase of biosolids handling services from Synagro South, LLC.
