September 5, 2022 - Board Appointments, Homelessness Grants, and More

GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Chattanooga Police Department is hosting a neighborhood roundtable on Thursday September 8 at 5:30pm at the South Chattanooga community Center.

AUGUST 30 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • On August 30 the city council:
    • voted on a number of rezoning cases (second reading).
    • voted on a minor amendment to the zoning code (second reading).
    • voted to close and abandon several sections of unused right of way (second reading).
    • voted to amend the ordinance controlling to the Downtown Central Business Improvement District to exempt St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Second Presbyterian Church from CBID assessments (first reading).
    • votde to confirm the appointment of Jim Williamson, David Hudson, Tenesha Irvin, Sarah Brogdon, and Thomas Palmer to the Form-Based Code Committee.
    • voted to confirm the appointment of Charles Young, Ronald Pendergrass, and James Walker to the Board of Electrical Examiners.
    • voted to confirm the appointment of Brenda Jean Adamson, Matt Lyle, Nathan Bird (for transparency, that’s me), and Vyomesh Desai to the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission.
    • voted to confirm the appointment of John Tucker, Shea Cofer, and Sandra Koss to the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Board.
    • voted to authorize an agreement with the Chattanooga Housing Authority to house 100 homeless individuals at a rate of $600 per person per year.
    • did not vote on a resolution to grant a $750 transition supplement payment for 48 city employees being moved from weekly to bi-weekly payroll. The resolution failed due to a lack of second.
    • voted to approve the release of 3 Requests For Proposals (RFPs). 1) For concessionaire services at various city parks. 2) For a developer to convert and manage the Airport Inn for supportive housing. 3) For a Community Violence Interruption Technical Assistant.
    • Many citizens addressed the council, primarily to discuss the transition of 48 city employees from weekly to bi-weekly payroll. You can view the public comments here.

SEPTEMBER 6 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • On September 6 the city council will:
    • vote to amend the ordinance controlling to the Downtown Central Business Improvement District to exempt St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Second Presbyterian Church from CBID assessments (first reading).
    • vote to confirm the appointment of Lea Anne Wiles, Sandra Norwood, Sharon Watts, Whitney Brazell to the Head Start Governing Board.
    • vote to confirm the appointment of Edward Greene, Jr. to the Board of Sign Appeals.
    • vote to jointly apply with the regional Transportation Planning Organization for a Safe Streets For All grant to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan.

SEPTEMBER 13 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • On September 13 the city council will:
    • vote on a number of rezoning cases (first reading).
    • vote to allow the Department of Community Development to apply for a Department of Housing and Urban Development grant to provide transitional housing, rapid rehousing, and other services to homeless persons.
    • vote on a ~$337k contract with Volkert, Inc. to complete preliminary engineering for the resurfacing of Amnicola Highway and Riverfront Parkway.
