September 19, 2022 - Runoff Results, Budget Amendments, and More
GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS
- Marvene Noel has won a runoff election against Marie Mott for the District 8 city council seat. Ms. Noel has been serving in the District 8 seat in an interim capacity since former councilman Anthony Byrd was appoint City Court Clerk.
- Chattanooga Police Department is hosting a National Night Out event at 5:30, October 4th at 1543 Mercer Street. There will be live music and giveaways. Contact Sgt. Ernest Craw for more information, (423) 643-5090.
SEPTEMBER 13 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- On September 13 the city council:
- voted on a number of rezoning cases (first reading).
- voted to allow the Department of Community Development to apply for a Department of Housing and Urban Development grant to provide transitional housing, rapid rehousing, and other services to homeless persons.
- voted to confirm the appointment of Malcom Harris and Chris Crimmins to the Carter Street Corporation Board.
- deferred a vote to waive park rental fees for the Three Sister Bluegrass festival and the Tennessee Valley Pride festival.
- voted on a ~$337k contract with Volkert, Inc. to complete preliminary engineering for the resurfacing of Amnicola Highway and Riverfront Parkway.
- voted to approve 3 routine purchases.
- The Budget and Finance Committee met to discuss an upcoming budget amendment. The amendment moves ~$1.3M in funds between operating contingency and various departments, including a ~924k increase in the police budget, and appropriates $1.5M from the capital budget for affordable housing. - The STVR Ad Hoc committee met to discuss housing data. The next meeting will be 2pm October 11 in the city council building.

SEPTEMBER 20 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- On September 20 the city council will:

- vote on a number of rezoning cases (first reading).
- vote to confirm the appointment of Rosalyn Ruffin to the Head Start Governing Board.
- vote to waive park rental fees for the Three Sister Bluegrass festival and the Tennessee Valley Pride festival.
- vote to confirm the appointment of Rosalyn Ruffin to the Head Start Governing Board.
- vote to authorize the Chattanooga Police Department to apply with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department for a joint grant from the Department of Justice.
