GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS
- The mayor has appointed Carmen Davis as Director of the city’s new Division of Culture, Arts, and Creative Economy (under the Parks and Outdoors Department).
- The mayor has appointed Esai Navarro as the first Director of the city’s new Office of New Americans.
- The city has 23 job openings that can be found here.
SEPTEMBER 6 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- On September 6 the city council:
- voted to amend the ordinance controlling to the Downtown Central Business Improvement District to exempt St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Second Presbyterian Church from CBID assessments (first reading).
- voted to confirm the appointment of Lea Anne Wiles, Sandra Norwood, Sharon Watts, Whitney Brazell to the Head Start Governing Board.
- voted to confirm the appointment of Edward Greene, Jr. to the Board of Sign Appeals.
- voted to authorize a one time exception to the PTO buy-back policy at 100% for certain employees who were overpaid during the 2021 pay plan implementation.
- voted to jointly apply with the regional Transportation Planning Organization for a Safe Streets For All grant to develop a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan.
- voted to approve five routine purchases.
- The mayor’s office informed the council of two emergency purchases: ~$45k for emergency sewer repairs and $110k for emergency finance staffing.

SEPTEMBER 13 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- On September 13 the city council will:
- vote on a number of rezoning cases (first reading).
- vote to allow the Department of Community Development to apply for a Department of Housing and Urban Development grant to provide transitional housing, rapid rehousing, and other services to homeless persons.
- vote to confirm the appointment of Malcom Harris and Chris Crimmins to the Carter Street Corporation Board.
- vote to waive park rental fees for the Three Sister Bluegrass festival and the Tennessee Valley Pride festival.
- vote on a ~$337k contract with Volkert, Inc. to complete preliminary engineering for the resurfacing of Amnicola Highway and Riverfront Parkway.
SEPTEMBER 20 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- vote to confirm the appointment of Rosalyn Ruffin to the Head Start Governing Board.
