November 29, 2022 - Afforable Housing, Wrecker Charges, and More

NOVEMBER 22 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

At the November 22 agenda session, the city council:

  • discussed proposed changes to the TIF policy.
  • discussed possible changes to the zoning code to resolve discrepancies in allowed density between the C2 zone and the UGC zone. This issue has been key in several controversial rezoning cases, including the Airport Inn rezoning. The council discussed directing the RPA to study these changes and present their findings to council at a later date.
  • discussed the relationship between housing quality, density, transportation, and affordability more broadly.

At the November 22 business session, the city council:

  • votes on several rezoning case (see agenda for full details).
  • voted to direct the newly formed Sports Authority Board to begin due diligence work with regards to the proposed South Broad Stadium. The city shall bear all expenses of this due diligence research.
  • votes to confirm the appointment of Vickie Haley as interim Chief Financial Officer and Phillip A. Noblett as interim City Attorney.
  • approved 3 routine purchases and 1 sole source purchase, including a $2M for a HVAC services contract.

NOVEMBER 29 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

The proposed city council agenda for November 29 includes:

  • a vote to allow an increase in billing and charges for district wreckers (first reading).
  • a vote to adopt the 2018 edition of the International Building Code (first reading).
  • a vote to adopt the 2018 edition of the International Fuel Gas Code (first reading).
  • a vote to adopt the 2018 edition of the International Mechanical Code (first reading).
  • a vote to adopt the 2018 edition of the International Plumbing Code (first reading).
  • a vote to adopt the 2018 edition of the International Fire Code (first reading).
  • a vote to amend a portion of the city code relating to sewer service lines (first reading).
  • a vote to amend the Tax Increment Financing Policies and Procedures.
  • votes to confirm the appointment of Santosh Sankar and Chris Sugden to the Metropolitan Airport Authority.
  • votes on 3 public works contracts and one honorary street renaming (see agenda for full details).

DECEMBER 6 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
