November 14, 2022 - Airport Inn Rezoning, Job Openings, and More

GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS

  • The city is currently hiring for 27 different positions at various levels. You can view the full list of openings here.
  • The city council took their first vote to approve the rezoning of the old Airport Inn and Lee Highway. This rezoning was required in order to convert the building to supportive housing while maintaining the current unit count. The second vote will take place on November 15.

NOVEMBER 8 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • On November 8 the city council:
    • voted to amend city code to replace the Office of Multicultural Affairs with the Department of Equity and Community Engagement (final reading).
    • voted on a number of rezoning cases, including a request to rezone the old Airport Inn to provide supporting housing (see agenda for full details).
    • voted to deny a resolution placing several conditions upon the conversion of the Airport Inn to Supportive housing. You can read the full list of conditions here.
    • voted to renew a lease of 36 Sheridan Avenue to the Missionary Ridge Neighborhood Association for the amount of $1 per year.
    • voted to authorize the increase of an IT software licensing contract by ~$186k over three years.
    • voted to confirm the appointment of Ronald Smith to the Beer & Wrecker Board.
    • voted to confirm the appointment of James Walker and Michael Webb to the Board of Construction Appeals.
    • voted to confirm the appointment of Jeffrey Wilson to the General Pension Board.
  • The council approved 2 routine purchases, including a ~$112k purchase of new community center signs.
  • A number of citizens addressed the council. The topics included STVRs, affordable housing, the Airport Inn housing conversion, homelessness, and noise ordinances. You can watch the full comments here.

NOVEMBER 15 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • On November 15 the city council will:
    • vote on several rezoning case (see agenda for full details).
    • vote to confirm the appointment of Cassandra Nice and Chanda Chambers to the North Chattanooga Region 3 Community Advisory Board.
    • vote to confirm the appointment of Linda Mathis, Carlos Santez McConnell, Timothy Bowman, and Nan Zamata to the Standifer Gap Region 9 Community Advisory Board.
    • vote to approve a number of property transfers (see agenda for full details).
    • vote to approve a new liquor store at 6231 Perimeter Drive.
    • vote to waive park rental fees or Reindeer on the Riverfront ($2,750).
    • vote on 3 public works contracts (see agenda for full details).

NOVEMBER 22 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • On November 22 the city council will:
    • vote on several rezoning case (see agenda for full details).
    • vote to direct the newly formed Sports Authority Board to begin due diligence work with regards to the proposed South Broad Stadium. The city shall bear all expenses of this due diligence research.
    • vote to confirm the appointment of Vickie Haley as interim Chief Financial Officer and Phillip A. Noblett as interim City Attorney.
