December 18 City Council Update

DECEMBER 12 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • The council heard planning and zoning presentations on various upcoming rezoning requests.
  • The council discussed Councilwoman Hill’s proposed legislation amending the city ordinance relative to skates, skateboards, scooters, and other non-motorized vehicles. The proposed amendment would allow such non-motorized vehicles to utilize the bike lanes, which is not currently allowed under city ordinance.
  • The council discussed proposed changes to the city’s Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) prgram.

  • The council approved the proposed deannexation of 7900 Holly Hills Drive (final reading)
  • The council approved an amendment to the Fire District Area (first reading).
  • The council voted on a number of rezoning requests (first reading), including: - Denying a request to rezone 1133 Old Pineville Road from R-1 to R-3. RPA staff recommended denial. Planning commission recommended approval. - Approving a request to rezoning 1137 Old Pineville Road from R-1 to R-3.RPA staff recommended denial. Planning commission recommended approval.
  • The council approved two economic development resolutions related to surplus property. See the agenda for full details.
  • The council confirmed the appointments of Daisy. W. Madison, Carl Levi, Katie Reismidt, and Aon Miller to the General Pension Board.
  • The council confirmed the appointment of Corri Bischer to the Head Start Governing Board.
  • The council approved a Planned Unit Development at 1115 Morris Lane and 8606 East Brainerd Road (full disclosure, the applicant, RaganSmith, is my employer).
  • The council approved two Public Works contracts. See the agenda for full details.
  • The council approved 5 routine purchases.
  • The council approved one Request for Proposals (RFP) for a provider for on-site medical and behavioral services.
  • 39 citizens addressed the council, all of them in response to the recent crash on Frazier Ave which killed two pedestrians. You can watch the full comments here.

DECEMBER 19 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

  • The council will vote on an amendment to the Fire District Area (final reading).
  • The council will vote on a number of rezoning requests (final reading).
  • The council will vote on an amendment to city code allowing skates, skateboards, scooters, and similar devices on public streets for transportation (first reading).
  • The council will vote on a proposed unopened right-of-way abandonment at the 5100 block of Strickland Circle (first reading).
  • The council will vote on a number of lease agreements, economic development programs, and grant awards.
  • The council will vote on the appointments of Quinta Robinson, Ella Kliger, Carolyn Lawhorn, Denita Strickland, and Joe Shudan to the Community Advisory Committee.
  • The council will vote on an inclusive playground program at Riverview Park.
  • The council will vote on two Public Works agreements.
  • The council will vote on a wastewater easement access agreement.
  • The council will be on recess until January 9.
