Climate Action Plan, Noise Ordinance, and More
GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS
- On March 28 the city council will vote on the adoption of the Chattanooga Climate Action Plan. You can read more about the plan here. You can listen to my interview discussing the plan on Spotify (linked) or your favorite podcast app..
- On March 28 the city council will vote on an update to the noise ordinance (first reading). The proposed ordinance places restrictions on car horns, musical instruments between 8:30pm-7:00am, yelling in the streets, dogs, loud vehicles, construction work between 8:00pm-7:00am, refuse collection between 9:00pm-7:00am, lawn equipment between 9:00pm-7:00am, and fireworks after 11:30pm (except 4th of July and New Years Eve). - On April 4 the city council will vote on the allocation of American Rescue Plan funds:

- The council voted on a number of rezoning cases.
- The council confirmed the appointment of Adam Cowen to the Shallowford Region Community Advisory Committee.
- The council approved applications for two grants.
- The council confirmed the appointment of Beverly Bell to the Form Based Code Committee.
- The council approved a $1.2M contract with Planning Next for new city area plans.
- The council approved 8 routine purchases, including a $6.5M purchase of liquid sodium hypochlorite for the wastewater department.
- The council was notified of one emergency purchase of $68k for two police department MBIS Latent Expert Workstations.

- The council will vote on an update to the noise ordinance (first reading). APRIL 4 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- The council will vote on a request to rezone 7368, 7376, 7384, and 7390 Old Cleveland Pike to R-T/Z (final reading).
- The council will vote on the allocation of American Rescue Plan funds:
- $20k to the Department of Parks and Outdoors for a pavilion at Lookout Valley Park.
- $25k to the YMCA for family programming services.
- $35k to Brothers United International Association of Black Professional Firefighters for a youth summer camp.
- $5k to Chattanooga Empowerment Cowboys for youth athletics programing.
- $10k for the Bethlehem Center for the hiring of a community outreach manager.
- $42k for the Boys & Girls Club for facility improvements.
- The council will vote on an agreement for the management of the EPA Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund.
- The council will vote on the application of a grant for the Family Justice Center.
- The council will vote on the intent to adopt C-PACER enabling legislation.
- The council will vote on the appointments of Harlee Milligan, Deanne Bolton, and Micah Chapman to the Office of Family Empowerment Board.
- The council will vote on a liquor store permit.
- The council will vote on several Parks and Outdoors, Public Works, and Wastewater department agreements (see agenda for full details).
