August 15, 2022 - Westside Evolves, Code Updates, and More
GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS
- The city has announced its intent to proceed with the Westside Evolves plan to renovate and expand the Westside public housing development. A conceptual master plan was written for this site in 2021 and will be going before the planning commission as the first step for adoption on September 12. You can find out more here.
- The city is planning a full update to the zoning code. The process will include several public meetings over the coming months. You can stay up to date with this process by signing up for email updates on their new Zoning Code Update website.
- The city is planning to update the subdivision regulations. They will be holding public meetings to discuss these changes on August 15. Learn more here.
- The city is planning to update the Form Based Code zoning area that covers downtown. They will be holding public meetings to discuss these changes on August 22. Learn more here.
AUGST 9 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- On August 9 the city council:
- voted to create a new Office of Family Empowerment Advisory Board (second reading).
- voted on a number of rezoning cases (first reading).
- voted to approve a number of minor amendments to the zoning and subdivision code (first reading).
- voted to approve minor amendments the city ordinance with regards to the Police Advisory and Review Committee (first reading).
- voted to confirm the appointment of Melinda Hickey to the Police Advisory and Review Committee.
- voted to approve the South Broad District Plan (including a new sports authority board and TIF for the construction of a new stadium).
- voted to confirm the appointment of Todd Morgan to the Historic Zoning Commission.
- voted to accept a multi use path from JA Fielden Co., Inc. as city property for the Alton Park Connector.
- The Equity and Community Development Committee met during the council agenda session to hear updates about neighborhood services, code enforcement, and the Westside Evolves project. You can watch the agenda session here.
- Rev. Anthony Chatman, Marie Mott, John (last name not given), and Curtis Lancaster addressed the council. Public comments begin at 35:00.
AUGUST 16 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- On August 16 the city council will:
- vote on a number of rezoning cases (second reading).
- vote on a number of minr amendments to the zoning and subdivision code (second reading).
- vote on minor amendments the city ordinance with regards to the Police Advisory and Review Committee (second reading).
- vote on a number of deferred zoning cases (first reading).
- vote to confirm the appointment of Cody Harvey to the Head Start Governing Board.
- vote to confirm the appointment of Anna Taylor to the Library Board of directors.
AUGUST 23 CITY COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS

- On August 23 the city council will:
- vote on a number of rezoning cases (second reading).
- vote on a minor amendment to the zoning code (first reading).
- vote to close and abandon several sections of unused right of way (first reading).
- vote to confirm the appointment of Dr. Ernest Reid, Joyce Jackson, and Tccora Johnson Petersen to the Head Start Governing Board.
- vote to confirm the appointment of Sherelle Reid, Dr. Lar’mara Henderson, Meghan Creecy, Wynona McClendon, and Sharon Smith-Hensley to the newly created Office of Family Empowerment Board.
- vote to adopt the East Brainerd Area 11 Plan. This plan was created by the RPA the inform future zoning cases and land use plans in the East Brainerd area. You can view the plan here.
