My family has been struggling with a stomach bug, so this will be another week of just the highlights. As always, I’ve linked the minutes and agendas so you can read them yourselves. If you have any questions just reply to this email!

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The August election is this THURSDAY. You can find your sample ballot and voting location here.
  • The city and county have announced a joint plan to support a new Lookouts Stadium at the U.S. Pipe site as part of the efforts to revitalize the South Broad district. You can read about the plan here.. You can listen to my in-depth interview about the project on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts. The county commission is planning to vote on the plan on August 3, the city council on August 9.
  • The city has released a Roadmap to End Gun Violence in Chattanooga, which can be found here.
  • On Jul 26 the city council voted:
    • to exempt the city from certain procedures related to the application for a TIF.
    • on an intent to review the Chattanooga South Broad district TIF (Lookout Stadium).
    • to approve the Chattanooga Relief and Recovery Allocation Plan. This is the allocation of $30M in ARP funding. You can read more here.
    • confirm Kay Baker, Mary Anne Hensley, and Sylvester Harris to the Police Advisory and Review Committee.
    • to approve a grant of $40k to Habitat for Humanity for the construction of an affordable home at 278 West 26th Street.
  • On August 2 the city council will vote:
    • to create a new Office of Family Empowerment Advisory Board (first reading).
  • On August 9 the city council will vote:
    • to create a new Office of Family Empowerment Advisory Board (second reading).
    • on a number of rezoning cases (first reading).
    • to make minor amendments the city ordinance with regards to the Police Advisory and Review Committee.
    • to confirm the appointment of Melinda Hickey to the Police Advisory and Review Committee.
    • to approve the South Broad District Plan (including a new sports authority board and TIF for the construction of a new stadium).
    • to confirm the appointment of Todd Morgan to the Historic Zoning Commission.
    • to accept a multi use path from JA Fielden Co., Inc. as city property for the Alton Park Connector.
