The Three Things You Need for a More Productive (and Spiritual) Day!

Boost productivity and spirituality with note taking, task management, and a calendar.

Volume 23, Chapter III, Number 013

Hello!

This Week’s One Great Thing: The Three Things You Need for a More Productive (and Spiritual) Day!

3 things.png

Today, I let you into my workflow. There are other things I do of course to have a more productive (maybe the right word is productively spiritual, or spiritually productive) day. But I think if you strip away everything else, you really just need three things to make this work: you need a note taker, you need a way to manage your tasks, and finally, you need a calendar.

  1. Note Taking: Taking notes is essential for organizing ideas and thoughts. Keeping a journal of your accomplishments and day’s events can help you track your progress and stay motivated.

  2. Task Management: Managing your tasks efficiently is key for staying on track and productive. This can be done through lists and reminders (written lists or organization apps) so you can prioritize tasks and stay on track

  3. Calendar: Keeping a calendar allows you to stay organized and make sure important dates and deadlines don't get overlooked. Having a concise view of your day gives you an overview of what needs to get done

Why is note taking important?

Note taking is important because it helps organize your thoughts and ideas. Writing things down allows you to easily refer back to them and remember what you were thinking. Taking notes also helps you track your progress, allowing you to look back at what you have accomplished and see how far you have come. Additionally, note taking can help with creative thinking and problem solving, by allowing you to store and structure your thoughts in an organized way.

For note-taking, I use an app called EVERNOTE. It is an app that allows you to take notes, capture ideas, and organize your thoughts. This is great for productivity because it helps keep all of your thoughts and ideas organized in one place. I’ve been an Evernote user since June 2009! I like it because it is simple and it helps me to organize my thoughts better.

Why is task management important?

Task management is important because it allows you to be more organized and productive. It helps prioritize tasks and keep track of upcoming tasks, deadlines, and projects. It helps you stay focused and on track with your goals. It is also helpful in providing accountability when checking off tasks on the list . Additionally, task management can also help provide structure and clarity, as you can plan out the best way to approach tasks.

For task management, I use an app called Ticktick. Ticktick is fairly new in my app stack, but I like it because it allows me to easily add tasks, set reminders, track progress, and organize tasks into different categories. Its simple user interface makes it easy to use and helps me stay focused on what I need to do. Ticktick is great for managing your day-to-day tasks and staying on track. It also has the bonus feature of a pomodoro app to help me focus better (more on that in another letter).

Why is having a calendar important?

Having a calendar is important because it helps you plan ahead and efficiently organize your schedule. It allows you to look ahead to see upcoming tasks and deadlines, and helps you stay on track with your goals. It allows you to have a concise view of your day. It provides an overview of what needs to get done and helps track your progress. Calendars also help provide clarity and structure, as you can plan out the best way to approach tasks (I do this via a method called Timeboxing, which I hope to explain in future letters).

Additionally, it helps to keep important dates and deadlines from being overlooked. In the past, I would always double-book and Jean (my wife) would always be worried for me because I double-book my meetings. But now, I can easily manage important dates and deadlines with the calendar in my phone.

My calendar app is Google Calendar. I’ve been a Google Calendar user for more than eight years now, and I love it because it allows me to easily add events, tasks, and reminders in one place. I also like how I can access my calendar from my phone and computer, so I can always stay on top of my calendar.

Those are the three most important things I need to have a more productive and spiritual day. Note taking, task management, and calendar all come together to help me stay focused and organized. What do you use to enhance your productivity and spirituality?

Love, no matter what | Andrew Solomon

  • In this TED talk gold, Andrew Solomon discusses the various challenges that individuals face when coming to terms with their sexuality, and emphasizes the importance of love and acceptance in overcoming these challenges. He shares personal stories from his own life and from others, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
  • Ultimately, he argues that no matter what our differences may be, love is a universal and powerful force that can bring people together and heal even the deepest wounds.

Organisational Culture Eats Diversity for Breakfast

  • People can only be as creative as organisations permit them to be. Diversity does not inherently lead to innovation, as it brings the potential for both positive and negative conflict.
  • For such conflict to resolve in productive creativity, a culture of debate and tolerance must exist. If open challenges or debate are not possible in organisations, creativity and innovation are stifled, and corporate culture devolves into a cult of agreement with a fear of voicing dissent.

Ok! Now pause, get yourself to a window, look up to the sky, smile, and have a great day! Look forward to send you another letter next week!
