Hey everyone - experimenting with a new newsletter format with buttondown. Was working with Patreon for a while but it was confusing because we have a 501c3, i.e. a way to raise funds and support what we do. [And speaking of we would love your monthly support as we work on this new project!
//2024 - January 20th
Spent this week working on materials for our Exodus series at Hope College. The weather has been a bit interesting up here in Holland, MI so not quite into the rhythm of things yet.
Blake Johnson, our resident designer finished up his Exodus series design which is awesome. He took inspiration from some needlepoint/quilting designs he found online. We are attempting to cover the whole book in chapel this semester so his design hits the montage highlights.
//Top 100 CCLI Song Analysis - a group of crc worship directors, professors and campus pastors published their work providing a framework and some helpful critique on a recent list of the top 100 CCLI songs. There are some hot takes but I am looking forward to working through this document with my students and engaging the helpful reminder that there are no perfect worship songs. Stewarding a song repertoire is a weekly privilege and requires active pastoral vigilance.
//A snow day was the perfect opportunity to finally work through some of the haul that I acquired at last summers Hymn Society in Montreal, CA. This is a fantastic summary of the history of hymnody with a focus on the theological contributions of each era of the church's hymnody.
//12 Song Challenge - My follow through with this project isn't great but I love following the themes they explore each month. Kicked off the year with a little romp through Psalm 100. MP3 | Lyrics
