The October 2025 Cab Post

Pervy pumpkins, trains, and useful links

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well and that you've eaten at least one (1) apple or one (1) regulation squash in the form of soup, gratin, or something similar. I’ve been on a serious cooking frenzy lately, partly due to the new proximity of seasonal markets and Asian and Middle Eastern grocery stores in my life. The downside is that there’s always, always some dishes to do and pans to clean. At least we’re eating good hearty meals! Anyway, here's the October recap, between two apple crisps and a bowl of chicken soup.

Recap’

I've finished inking chapter 4 of Pupilles, which featured seventeen pages-worth of crowds out of 24 pages. I'm blown away by how beautiful this comic is so far, you guys. It’s gonna be so good. I’m still posting samples of inked pages on Patreon for those who wanna get a sneak peak.

Me when I saw the pencilled pages for the first time

I took an afternoon off to continue a photo study I began earlier this year. The Longue-Pointe rail yard in Hochelaga is one of my favorite spots in Montreal; at sixteen or seventeen, I decided to hike all the way there with my dad’s old Olympus camera to take some pictures. This huge, sprawling vacant lot has changed a lot over the years but this photo is a time capsule that is very dear to me. The print is available in my shop :)

As we have done every year for the past five years, Boum, her daughters, and I painted pumpkins for Halloween. This year's theme was "minimal effort, maximum result." Keep that in mind while you admire the best pumpkin I've painted so far.

My website and portfolio got a major update! Even though I'm not looking for a job right now, I still like to keep my online house tidy. In addition to new projects in my portfolio, I've expanded my links list by including online shops of local artists I admire. There's also a new "Inventory" section that I really enjoyed creating. Check it out!

Announcements

I'll be at the Salon du livre de Montréal signing books on Friday, November 21st from 3:30 pm to 5 pm and on Saturday, November 22nd from 2 pm to 3:30 pm, at the Front Froid/Nouvelle Adresse booth. Come say hi if you’re around!

ArtPop, a lovely boutique on Mont-Royal Street, provides a great showcase for local artists. If you're looking for a place to buy gifts or decorate your walls, this is the perfect spot. They commissioned three exclusive facade illustrations from me, and I'm working hard to bring more of my wares into the store. It's worth a visit.

That's all for October! I wish you a happy Halloween and I’ll see you in December!

This newsletter is and will ALWAYS be free. If you like what I do, I suggest visiting my online shop or hunting down my books at your favorite bookstore or library. The webcomic Utown is still online and completed and free—visit the website! I also share my illustrations, tips and tooks, writings and reflexions on Patreon, using a monthly “pay what you want” method. Maintaining my little corner of the internet is a lot of work; any support or purchase is appreciated!

Cool stuff

- I have finished reading Careless People by Sarah Wynn-Williams's. She was a high-level Facebook employee from 2011 to 2017 and she recounts how Zuckerberg went from an antisocial, apolitical nerd to a man obsessed with world affairs and power--and all the damage it caused. Meta tried to stop the book's publication, and after finishing it, I understand why.

- The legal graffiti wall under the Rouen overpass is 50 years old!

- I missed the Montreal launch of Cory Doctorow's new book The Enshitiffication of Everything  because I arrived too late, but I really enjoyed his interview with Adam Connover. It's a good starting point for getting acquainted with the concept that the decline in the quality of our collective digital (and real) life is manufactured—and reversible. Plus, Cory Doctorow is a great, chipper communicator so it makes for a really good interview. I can't wait to read his book! The Enshitiffication of Everything with Cory Doctorow.

- Archives of logos from various agencies and space exploration projects, real or imagined.

- Everything out there has teeth is Shedfromthebody’s second album and the perfect companion piece for your traditional contemplation of the abyss. And after that’s done, listen to Defense by Pete Josef, an excellent soul EP that I've been listening to on repeat for two weeks.

Cool artist:

Katherine Lam uses sublime palettes, an interesting interplay of silhouettes and a bit of unsettling imagery. She’s a wonderful illustrator.

Wisdom of the month:

“The ability to feel, and feel deeply, is not a bug but a feature of being a human, of being mortal. It is this fact that the ultra wealthy so despise. It is clear that they see the body as a gross, inefficient object that connects them to people they deem lower than them, that is, people in general.”
