New book (2)! Publication boogaloo
Another very short update about a new publication. This is book number 2 for 2023 which is a bit surreal! Migration Narratives in Archaeology is a public-facing and fully illustrated short volume designed to bring archaeological data and methods into dialogue with contemporary misunderstandings and fears about migration and migrants.
The 24 short texts in this illustrated book are broken into three sections: Migration stereotypes, Methods of studying migration in the past; and Migration narratives. The idea was to build outwards from the wonderful example 2021's Gender Stereotypes in archaeology and bring archaeological research on migration into the contemporary political discourse, make it accessible to a wide audience, and make it beautiful with unique illustrations.
The authors (including me) were mostly (though not all) part of the project Exploring the Archaeological Migration Narrative. The Introduction of Farming and Animal Husbandry in Southern Norway funded by the Norwegian Centre of Advanced Study at the Academy of Science and Letters, and the book is also published in Norwegian! Both the English and Norwegian editions are open access and free to download - you can buy a print copy for a small fee (basically the cost of printing).
