February 2024 - Bryan's Briefing
Hey friend,
It's my first month back in Germany after the year abroad.
My feelings are definitely mixed. The stress of starting a new job, trying to start my bachelor thesis and applying for the GKS scholarship in addition to my health being very poor hasn't been the best experience so far.
Applying for the Global Korea Scholarship was interesting, I spent many hours completing my application, resulting in having to print 100+ pages and send them by mail. It was more work than I originally expected. The scholarship would fully pay for a year of language school + 2 year master + monthly money to easily live off of, so it's an appealing opportunity but I'd have to get one of only six spots.
Even though my health is bad, not everything is. Had a great time meeting friends from Korea in Amsterdam again or travelling Spain and England. It's amazing to see the same people again on the other side of the globe and to be able to meet friends everywhere in the world.
Also realised that having a monthly mail like this is a great way to reflect on things, see if I am moving toward what I actually want. Am I working on something I like? What have I made this month? But my current focus is on trying to recover quickly.
Additionally, I found out about the world of Naver blog (Korean) this month. It's fascinating to see how many Koreans use it to share their experiences and look up information about various topics like travel tips, exam approaches and much more. It's so cool to see a community and general blog culture like that, especially since there is nothing similar in the West.
