Welcome to the Bowler Hat Science newsletter!

Bowler Hat Science from Matthew R Francis

Welcome to my second attempt at a newsletter! My hope is to send two of these every month, consisting of up to three parts:

  1. Summaries and possible further details of things I've published elsewhere. The frequency of those summaries obviously will depend on how many things are actually published. (This will replace my current Bowler Hat Science blog, and provide more information than those posts did.)

  2. A new short essay on a relevant topic. Paid supporters can also suggest content for this (see below). Think of this as similar to a "web log", or "blog", to use an archaic term.

  3. One or more cat photos! Or maybe wildlife photos if I manage to get some pictures of the local fauna (mostly large birds like vultures or hawks, but possibly other critters I spot around my city).

Right now, this newsletter is FREE and I don't plan to change that. However, if you want to support my writing, I have four options for you to do that, including one (ko-fi) which allows for recurring monthly donations (like Patreon but hopefully less obnoxious):

  • Ko-fi (one-time or monthly donation options): ko-fi.com/bowlerhatscience

  • PayPal: PayPal.me/drmrfrancis

  • Venmo: @DrMRFrancis

  • CashApp: @DrMRFrancis

I technically also have a Patreon, but it's defunct and I will only re-up that if enough of you need to use that instead.

The first real newsletter with actual content will land in your inbox in about two weeks' time. Meanwhile, please spread the word and feel free to make suggestions for additional material.

A stripey brown, white, and orange cat with big yellow-orange eyes, sticking her head and one white paw out from under a piece of brown paper. She is looking at the camera with an expression of terminal mischief.
Finally, here's my cat Callisto (named for Jupiter's moon because she orbits people, and because the name derives from the Greek word meaning "most beautiful".)

Bowlerhattishly thine,

Matthew
