Though I haven’t been anything close to regular about sending newsletters, I’ve been doing this for a while now. So, I wanted to talk through where we are and what this whole newsletter thing might become.
To be honest, I want to write more than I do. As of right now only one of you is a paid monthly subscriber (with a few others kicking in money now and then), which is fine! I don’t want to make this a pay-only newsletter for a lot of reasons, including that many people are broke right now. However, I just can’t write essays for free like I used to in the blog days, so we’re stuck in a situation where you all likely don’t want to pay if I’m not actually writing anything and I don’t want to write without payment.
Here are the options as I see them right now:
Keep things as they are, where I only send newsletters when something of mine is published elsewhere.
Beg you all for support (which again I’d rather not do!) so that I can spend time writing at least one real essay per month.
End the newsletter entirely and go back to posting updates on BowlerHatScience.org like I used to.
Anyway, apologies for not having a real newsletter and for the guilt trip. Here’s some cats:
