Book & Paper Arts Calendar Updates - September 26, 2021

Hello everyone,

I am seriously considering taking a virtual 8-week workshop with Guy Begbie in the UK even though it will be happening at 2am in my time zone. I am a night owl but that straddles the line between night owl and very early riser (which Bill is and I definitely am not). Guy has been a teacher on my "want to study with" bucket list but I, as always, need more information so I can make an informed decision. Besides how much sleep am I willing to give up especially now that the crows have claimed the roof above the master bedroom as their own as they mess with the resident squirrel. I have been waking up to strident squirrel chitterings and the lookout crow's garrulous warning caws. Not sure what the "war" is about but it may have to do with the nuts that Bill has been putting out on the concrete block "fence" between us and the park.

However something happened that may scuttle the plan for an 8-week Guy Begbie workshop. A jury summons for me showed up in our mailbox and after letting out an anguished, "Noooooooooooo!" I have decided if they call me in I will bring along things to make or fold! I may have to take Guy's workshop at another time - hopefully next year?

Be well, curious and creative!

====================About the calendar

Link to the calendar: https://teamup.com/ksd9e12a80c3878ba5 (If the link is not working copy and paste it to your browser)

  • The time listed as you mouse over each entry or at the top of the entry when opened will be in the time zone of the listing organization. If it is a virtual/online workshop the times for other time zones will also be listed in the Description area

  • There is no difference between In-person1 (blue entries) and In-person2 (red entries), just a way to visually separate in-person workshops; ditto with Online1 (orange entries) and Online2 (light teal entries) are also visual separations for online workshop; purple entries are for festivals or conferences;  yellow are public online meetings from various book arts guilds and museums; anything with ** are newly found workshops, meetings, presentations, etc. since the last newsletter was sent out

  • You can do a search (look for magnifying glass on your screen) by state, town, instructor name, time zone, keyword, etc. If it is the calendar you can search on that word. If one class is sold out search for a keyword from that class to see if another is available, for example, "masu" or "Sheehy". Do use the organizations workshop calendar listed in each calendar entry to see other disciplines are being offered

  • Monthly view is best viewed using a larger monitor with desktop or laptop. To change view look for the 3 bars (≡) in upper right corner of screen and click on appropriate view to the left of it

  • If using a cell phone or you wish to view upcoming workshops change view to List or Agenda view using button with the down arrow (v)in upper right corner of screen and select either "One month" or "Three months"

  • The calendar is updated at least once a week (unless the wifi is spotty while traveling) and you have 24x7 access to it

  • You can add any calendar entry to your own personal calendar to help you keep track of meetings and workshops you will be attending. On any entry either right click or touch & hold down your finger on the selected entry for a couple of seconds, select Share then select which calendar (Google, iCal, Outlook) you wish to add to. Be sure to update the time to your local time zone

I don't know about you but I thoroughly enjoy reading physical books - maybe it is the smell of the paper and the ink - maybe it is the act of turning the page and the accompanying rustle and I especially loved "reading" dictionary as a teenager. Here is a dictionary carved into a staircase and why maybe you should use a dictionary in the age of internet searches.
