Book & Paper Arts Calendar Updates - November 22, 2021

Happy Holidays with the hope that you are able to celebrate them the way you wish.

So I am having a Call for Suggestions. Instructors are not only providing virtual workshops but also on-demand pre-recorded sessions. I am trying to figure out how to include/handle these on-demand classes. All suggestions welcome! Top suggestion will have a choice of prize (anything from 36-hour chocolate chip cookies to choice of Japanese or paste paper to pens/markers that produce an outline to me saying the name of that).

Other than getting to know Instagram (more instructors, videos and more information to digest) I finally had a chance to practice my Indonesian at a restaurant (weirdly enough right after watching that guy who plays Thor speaking Indonesian promoting a movie), memorized an 85-letter long Maori hill name in New Zealand, danced like no one was watching while waiting for a latte at my favorite coffee roaster, hearing and catching a skein of Canadian geese going overhead and catching the start of the partial lunar eclipse before it was obliterated by the incoming marine layer.

Be well, creative and curious!

====================Bits & bobs about paper/books/tips/trips/etc.
Gina Pisello has contributed her very cool sculptural book structures to several books:  (1) L'art du Livre Origami (The Art of the Origami Book) by Jean-Charles Trebbi and (2) The Art of Papercraft by Helen Hiebert (please see next paragraph).  The first book was just published in French and is available on Amazon France (which does ship to the US) and the Spanish & English versions will be available in early 2022 (watch this bat space for available retail outlets then). 35 different models from guest artists such as Gina, Hedi Kyle, Béatrice Coron, Ed Hutchins, Paul Jackson, Annwyn Dean, Nicolas Codron, etc. I only listed the names I am familiar with but so many more to discover. I am looking forward to being up to my elbows in papery goodness! Perhaps there may be a book in Gina's future?

Helen Hiebert has a book coming out Feb 15, 2022 - there will be a virtual launch party for The Art of Papercraft (subscribe to the mailing list to stay apprised) - 40 unique projects, each using just one sheet of paper, different paper techniques and step-by-step instructions, The Art of Papercraft, offers a rich variety of projects that will delight crafters, artists, and designers alike, including paper votive lights, pop-up cards, folded paper gift boxes and envelopes, woven paper wall hangings, miniature one-sheet books, and much more - contributing guest artists include Gina Pisello, Hedi Kyle, Paul Jackson, Robert Lang, Paula Krieg, Eric Gjerde, Béatrice Coron, Peter Dahmen, Laura Russell, Shawn Sheehy, Bhavna Mehta, Debra Glanz, Ann Martin, etc. and more to discover - so looking forward to this book as well!

Registration for The Paper Year 2022 with Helen Hiebert will be open Dec 15, 2021. If you are interested in joining the Paper Year tribe sign up to "Hold Your Spot" on Dec 15 and/or attend a free Zoom mini-workshop to introduce The Paper Year to others on December 15th at 12noon MDT (invite your friends) - details will be coming soon in calendar

5 different ways to build a slipcase (of varying difficulties and styles) and a slipcase worksheet or 2. - Sage Reynolds in 4 parts (I am showing Part 1, please look for the other 3 parts. I also love his box series)

  • There is no difference between In-person1 (blue entries) and In-person2 (red entries) or Online1 (orange entries) and Online2 (light teal entries), just a way to visually separate workshops; purple entries are for festivals or conferences; yellow are public online meetings from various book arts guilds and museums; anything with ** are newly found workshops and events since the last newsletter was sent out

  • To change views in the calendar: on laptop/PC/tablet locate the 3 bar button [≡] upper right corner and select .. Day .. Week .. Month .. Agenda, List - on cellphone locate 3 bar button and select the down arrow button to the left of it and make your selection as above

  •  To move backwards or forwards in time in the calendar: on laptop/PC/tablet locate "Today" in the upper left corner and click on the single left facing arrow to back one time period (based on what view you have selected) and single right facing arrow to move one time period forward - on cellphone locate the ">>" button and to the right of that will be the single left & right facing arrow

Do use the organizations workshop calendar listed in each calendar entry to see other disciplines are being offered

  • The calendar is updated about once a week (unless the wifi is spotty while traveling or am having fatigue issues) and you have 24x7 access to it

On any entry either right click or touch & hold down your finger on the selected entry for a couple of seconds, select Share then select which calendar (Google, iCal, Outlook) you wish to add to.
