Book & Paper Arts Calendar Updates - March 24, 2021

Hello everybody,

Flash - Registration for FOBA 2021 Virtual Conference will open on May 15, 2021! Woo hoo! Coincidentally your taxes for 2020 are due on May 15, 2021. Boo hoo!

I also found an online workshop from a bookbinder I admire in the Netherlands, Marja Wilgenkamp, about "Inventive Books" (please calendar entry for Apr 15, 2021). This is pretty rare as they have already opened up in-person workshops following Covid restrictions. Marja will let me know if the workshop will be a go when it has 6 or more attendees (10 max) registered. She will use UPS to send the class kit to the US for this workshop.

We just returned from a driving trip up to our favorite small town and while we were driving I was continually amazed at how bountiful California is at producing food for our table and I am grateful for the people who labor to do so. I am also grateful for the memories Bill and I have accumulated while living here. Maybe I will will expound on our trip in a later update but there were a lot of animals involved - one ginger cat (he ignored us), dogs (4 very sweet dogs), crows (one hung out with us and wanted to hitch a ride), ravens, red tail hawks (saw more them in pairs because it is spring and witnessed a courtship flight ), turkey vultures (graceful aerialists with the ability to change their attitude with a flick of a feather), elephant seals (flipping sand on themselves to stay cool as well as lifting their back flippers off the sand), sea otters (playful babies amongst a nursery raft with 2 adult nannies napping and, boy, do they nap hard!), a surprise sighting of zebras and elk (timing is everything), etc. This update would have gone out sooner but during  the last part of our journey the internet was spotty at best at Ragged Point, CA, but it did give me the chance to re-read a favorite book of mine. It was like catching up with an old friend!

Hope you are staying safe, sane, healthy and creative!
Me ke aloha nui (kind regards) - Jade
