Book & Paper Arts Calendar Updates - January 9, 2019
Hello everyone,
Can anyone tell me what the theme is for the "All things internet..." section? All guesses will go into a hat and one random winner will be given/sent/teleported one of these. You can store a basic bookbinding or paper crafting set of tools in this bag for travel! Send in your guesses by January 23, 2019 with the subject line "My guess is the aglet did it!" and your guess.
I am not sure whether I am happy or glad that things are back to normal. I loved seeing the Christmas lights as I am sure the airline pilots who fly at night do as well! The lands below them must look especially dark after the Christmas lights are taken down. One of these days I will put up lights on my roof with arrows pointing the way to LAX, Torrance and Long Beach airports. My favorite sights as we fly back into LAX is when you start to see the lights of LA county and the traffic on the many freeways in the area get more and more bright and I know I am getting closer to home!
I am working on creating a PDF file that I will upload to Dropbox that will contain links to all the organizations I look at for workshops. I encourage you to sign up for their mailing lists in case I am slow in getting out an update. This list will be updated as I include links I may have missed or new organization I may have discovered in my search! Should be ready for the next update before I leave for the Big Island at the end of the month. Can you think of any other lists I should work on? Places to get bookbinding & paper related tools?
So the house hunt continues! If we are successful in finding a house we love on the Big Island there will be an impact on the number of workshops I will be able to attend. :( I wonder if we should wait until after NPBAF (Newport, OR) and FOBA (Forest Grove, OR). Luckily we are in no rush! It is interesting to see how the housing market on the Big Island is starting to pick up again while it is slowing down a little in California. Have you noticed how many more for sale signs there are out there?
Here's hoping you have the opportunity to take a workshop or 2!

My CC&Rs will never let me do this if I wanted to re-paint the house.
Imagine taking a trip based on words made out of airport codes - https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/how-many-words-can-you-make-with-airport-codes
Words you didn't know you needed - https://curiosity.com/topics/have-you-ever-heard-these-25-obscure-english-words-curiosity I already knew about aglet & defenestrate but love borborygmus. Another one of my favorite words is the scent when rain first hits the ground - petrichor or rain that never hits the ground - virga.

Newly found workshops are below. They may be happening tomorrow, within a week, or 11 months out! I encourage everyone to use the links in the calendar entries as a jumping off point to look for other workshops offered by that organization. There were some newly found workshops that did not make this list as I was still working on getting them into the calendar when they pushed out the summary list. If you do a search on Tucson or look for the light green entries you will find them.
