Book & Paper Arts Calendar Updates - Aug 29, 2017

Hello everyone,

What a crazy 2 weeks it has been! Driving up to Corvallis, OR and back (skip the 101 for now if you are going on a road trip) was over 2,100 miles (including other adventurous side trips) placed on our poor little Honda HR-V but it was worth every mile when we experienced totality on top of Marys Peak! It was awe inspiring, magical, humbling! The very next day after we got back I was off once again to San Diego to attend a workshop! It was very cool and satisfying to make books out of one sheet of paper, meeting people interested in making and creating and learning new structures! Welcome to my fellow attendees to this calendar mailing list. The next day I rested by having an informal class with a young lady who is going off to college in Boston who wanted to learn how to make crumpled and inked craft paper for gift wrapping and we ended up making a couple of books I learned in One-Page Wonders and using the wrapping paper we made to make a handmade card with envelope. It was gratifying to see how excited she got when she started to see things come together!

I received an email from Sandra Pearce in Australia whose workshop newsletter I signed up for. It mentioned a “Wonderful Japanese Washi - Paper Tour of Japan” from September 24 - October 4. How wonderful would that trip be? The hosts, Phil and Kazuko will escort you during the tour, providing individual attention and professional service to help you make the most of your Japan experience. The cost is around $3,700 (I believe this is in AU$) not including airfares and personal spending (eg gifts). Sandra has been on their tour and highly recommends them! I will be signing up for their newsletter and saving my allowance for their next trip! Here is the itinerary for this trip to look over - https://tinyurl.com/y8z6bs8x

In the midst of all our held mail there was an envelope from France. I had ordered “Japan Paper Tour - the book. City paper guide of Japan: Tokyo, Kyoto & Osaka” for when we go to Japan and I go paper hunting! It contains pictures and websites. The stores and their window displays look like works of art! She has similar booklets for London and Paris (all 3 can be ordered in French or English). Here is her website on tictail if you are interested: https://tictail.com/julieauzillon

Here are some upcoming classes in the LA area, San Francisco (SF) and along the west coast (it could be a day-long adventure, make a weekend or whole vacation out of it!). Link to calendar: https://teamup.com/ksd9e12a80c3878ba5
