Book & Paper Arts Calendar Updates - April 21, 2021

Hello everybody,

Correction: Taxes for 2020 will be due on May 17, 2021, as May 15 (as reported in the last month's update) is a Saturday. More information here on the extended filing date.

NPBAF news - After much consideration the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts has decided to take the 2021 Newport Paper & Book Arts Festival virtual, September 17-19, 2021. Registration for the 2021 festival will open during the first week of July. Keep an eye on your email for updates. If you need to be added to their mailing list send an email to Sara Siggelkow at ssiggelkow@coastarts.org.

I am in week 2 of Inventive Books with Marja Wilgenkamp of Boekbinderij Wilgenkamp in the Netherlands. Not only am I learning a smidgen of Dutch but am tickled to be attending a workshop being taught from the Netherlands. There are attendees from the US, UK, Belgium and the Netherlands!

Rocket launches (from the astronomy geek in me): Here is a listing of rocket launches all over the world. The US has launches in California, Florida, Virginia and eventually wherever Elon Musk settles on his very own space port (it looks like South Padre Island, TX). The next launch will be April 26 at Vandenberg Air Force Base north of Lompoc, CA (3 hours away by car). No time as yet and even if it is scrubbed the Central Coast of California is always a lovely place to visit.

Hope you are staying safe, sane, healthy and creative!
Me ke aloha nui (kind regards) - Jade

  • The time listed as you mouse over each entry or at the top of the entry when opened will be Pacific Time with the original & other times listed in the Description area

  • There is no difference between Calendar 1 (blue entries) and 2 (red entries), just a way to visually separate in-person workshops; orange and light teal (also visual separation) entries are online workshops; light green ones are the latest workshops found since the last email update; purple entries are for festivals or conferences;  yellow are public online meetings from various book arts guilds and museums

  • You can do a search (magnifying glass search button in upper right of screen) by state, town, instructor name, time zone, etc. If it is the calendar you can search on it. If one class is sold out search for a keyword to see if another is available, for example, "masu" or "Sheehy". Do use the organizations workshop calendar to see what else is being offered
