Issue #17 (November 2024)
Hi there! Long time no hear.
I think I’m just going to give up on the idea that this is a monthly newsletter, haha. But here’s what I’ve been up to since, y’know. June.
Celestial Bodies
Titan edition is out! If you have the original game you have it. Featuring like 200 more pages of content, including 19 factions, more GMless procedures, a ship construction gameplay loop, and much more. As you might imagine, this has been a large portion of what I’ve been up to.
Also…
A kickstarter follow-page for the Titanic Eclipse Edition is live! This will be the complete edition of the game and this kickstarter is intended to fund those finishing touches as well as a proper print run. Please give it a follow, spread the word, tell a friend, do whatever you can.
Other Releases and Updates
Corpslayers is out! It’s a cyberpunk heist game based on Gila RPGs’s Slayers. A laid-out version will be available next month at the end of Minimalist Jam 3 (because after all, I am nothing if not a man of my no-layout word).
Valiant Horizon Tactics got a big update! A new Region and a bunch of new starter packages for players.
Valiant Horizon got a minor update (just a few little clarifications prior to printing).
Physicals
Physical copies of APOCALYPSE FRAME and Valiant Horizon are available!
APOCALYPSE FRAME can be found on its itch page, IPR, or Tabletop Bookshelf.
POD copies of The Infected World and ReFRAMEd are also available.
Valiant Horizon can be found on its itch page (IPR coming soon!)
Blog Posts
Now that cohost is dead - long live cohost - I’m trying to bring a lot of the posts I would have made there to my own site. You can find them at https://binarystar.games/posts/ (and if you’re into that sort of thing, there’s an RSS feed link on the left-hand menu of my site). It has the backups of every design post from cohost and will be hosting all of my itch devlogs as well, so it’s all in one place.
Here are some notable posts I’ve made in the past few months:
The Grid™️ 2: Hypergrid, talking about Celestial Bodies Titan Edition’s home-ship construction and how it’s set up.
Valiant Pilgrimage, a follow-up to my Valiant Persona series, thinking about how to adapt Valiant Horizon to another JRPG framing.
Phipps23 and Demonstrating Themes in Celestial Bodies, in which I talk about a preferred method for worldbuilding, why it works for me, and how it applies to Celestial Bodies.
Process Optimization in TTRPGs, in which I get way too in depth about thinking about how to speed up processes during TTRPG design for faster play.
Think that’s it this time around! Talk to you all next time.
