Issue #16 (June 2024)
Hi there! Long time no see. One day I'll start a newsletter without that sentiment.
APOCALYPSE FRAME
Print copies are here!
- A hardback version of the core book is available via itch! Ships to the US or internationally.
- POD versions are available for APOCALYPSE ReFRAMEd and The Infected World. These are lovely little staple-bound zines! If you buy one of those and don't have the digital copy, email me and I'll send you a key.
Also, I'm always going to take an opportunity to shill for the excellent critique of Split/Party when our paths intersect, and at the moment they do! (Part 2 coming soon.)
Valiant Horizon
The season pass, Ages of Heroism, is complete! This is a set of ages that introduces times that can be included in your setting's past, including heroes from those ages and ancient threats. The full set of Ages is:
- The Age of Darkness. In the past, dark magic almost won. An empire using fragmented souls consumed itself, and almost everything with it, before a handful of heroes drove it back. The Age of Darkness is in the past now, but it could be the future again...
- The Age of Wonders. In the past, great technological wonders stretched across the land before some great disaster. But historical memory always obscures the downsides of the age from those who would unearth it...
- The Age of Order. In the past, an empire crushed all before it with an iron fist, inflicting its Order upon the world. A handful of heroes led a resistance that unseated it, but it could just as easily be a picture of the future as the past...
- The Age of Sorcery. In the past, there was a deeper magic beyond crystals: sorcerous gifts shaped the land, the people, and the nature of the world. That powerful and dangerous magic was suppressed and lost to time, but nothing is ever lost forever...
I'll be compiling them into one PDF soon for convenience, but for now, all the stuff is in there!
I'm also going to be making a v1.1 of core Valiant Horizon soon. I have a few reasons for this:
- Fixing a few weird rules interactions.
- A few very tiny balance tweaks and typo fixes.
- Better handling for Elite enemies at higher tiers.
- I've given up on the staple-bound form factor (I was stubborn about this for awhile but it's Just Too Big) so I'm going to expand some areas as necessary.
(also if that last bullet wasn't enough of a hint, I'm looking into print options for Valiant Horizon. Stay tuned.)
Valiant Horizon Tactics
I was wondering what header to put this under. Is this its own thing? Is this a new thing? Is this a RUNE variant? The answer to all of those is: Yes!
Valiant Horizon Tactics's Unlikely Edition is now available! This is a solo tactical and hexcrawling game based on RUNE and Valiant Horizon, with a lot of ideas that aren't in either. Take up the mantle of Bard, Blazemagus, or Knight as your unlikely hero adventures to regain all of the soul crystals. The current edition has one large (36 hex) region. Future editions will include incredible pixel art, more Regions, and other soul crystals to play as and equipment to use!
Liminal Void
A few months ago I wrote about revising Liminal Void for v0.3. This month, I released a further update, v0.3.1. I wrote a devlog about it but the short version is that I made escalation not always good by default in combat, Backgrounds give traits instead of extra attributes, and Energy Harm no longer exists.
I also made a third quickstart scenario! Escape corporate maneuverings, corporate malfeasance, and an incoming geomagnetic storm in Storm over Europa.
Celestial Bodies
Backer content surveys close June 7th! If you're reading this and you're one of the handful of backers who did not yet tell us what you want, please do so!
We'll be working on that content, factions/weapons/Titan Frames of our own, better procedural methods for GM-less play, and much more this summer!
Writing?
I wanted to be writing blog posts more for this! But then I didn't, but I want to do that still. So I'll be sending out more stuff later this week and hopefully more frequently in the weeks to come.
That's all for now!
