Digitized Analog Letterboxd Monthly: January 2025
I'm sharing some of my movie notes and doodles!
I received a nice mechanical pencil and a couple of quad-ruled pocket notebooks from my sister this past holiday season. In one of the notebooks, I try to keep a near-daily log of some notable things that happened. Not a bullet or gratitude journal or a diary - I’d hate to oversell it! - just like a thing to help me think about my day before I go to bed. This isn’t even the point of this post - stop prying!
In the other one, I keep a kind of movie journal where I note certain production/viewing details, lightly hash out thoughts/feelings, and try to add a little doodle/drawing. I honestly intended this to just be for me and for fun and hadn’t considered sharing it, but I’ve fallen into a format I like and my drawings hover around okay-ish so I’ve decided to share because it’s possible that they might bring some amusement.
In an effort to put out something semi-regularly, I’ve decided to share my favorites (by my own personal metric) at the end of each month. Since we’re now 3.25 months into the year, I’m going to get us all caught up with the first three month’s of posts over the next however long so that I can post the end of April at the end of April.
That said(!), the polite thing to do is to warn you that there may be spoilers ahead. To minimize the possibility that something you wanted to see but haven’t yet is ruined, I’m going to share the list of movies featured below. If you give any fraction of a crap about any of them, then proceed with any amount of caution as you see fit from here on out. (I’m not even sure if you’ll be able to read my handwriting, but if you follow me on Letterboxd, then you might already know some of it anyway.)
The Movies
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Clueless (1995)
Hundreds of Beavers (2022)
The Brutalist (2024)
Men in Black (1997)
Tilbury (1987)
Twisters (2024)
Southern Comfort (1981)
10 Things I Hate About You, Clueless, Hundreds of Beavers

Early days here, so I’m still working out my preferred formatting, but it’s pretty close.
Things I knew I wanted to try and include:
Date of viewing / Title (release year) / First Time or Re Watch / With Whom / Format (Streamer) / Rating(s)
Director / Writer / Editor / Cinematographer
Main-ish Cast
Thoughts/Notes (number of pluses/minuses indicates the strength of the item of note)
Drawing (not every movie gets a drawing)
Additional commentary:
For both 10 Things… and Clueless, I was actually trying to take a nap on a flight, so I purposely didn’t have anything playing on my screen. What I didn’t anticipate was that I would just start watching whatever was on the person’s screen in front of me and to the right, so I ended up watching both of these through the space between seats on someone else’s seat back and in silence.
The Brutalist, Men in Black

Formatting notes:
I started toying with blocking off pieces of information.
I started using the null sign (∅) for thoughts that are neither good nor bad.
Additional commentary:
The Brutalist had a number of things that could’ve been drawn. I chose to draw the simplest things and I did so poorly.
Tilbury, Twisters, Southern Comfort

No additional notes here on the formatting, but if you have a chance to watch Tilbury, don’t.
Digitized Analog Letterboxd Monthly for February is coming soon.
Current Mood: Pretty all right!
