Two New Interviews + Details for Tonight's DJ Gig

Tonight is Yeah Yeah Yeahs x Siouxsie Night at Club Underground. Both floors of Grand Star Jazz Club will be open, with Larry G. and I in the DJ booths from open to close. Party starts at 9:30 p.m. and it’s 21+. If you want to get tickets beforehand, those are available on Dice and Eventbrite. Otherwise, you can get tickets at the door. Grand Star Jazz Club is located at 943 N. Broadway in Chinatown’s Central Plaza, right next to the Bruce Lee statue.

And in case you’re looking for something to do later this weekend or early next week, I have some recommendations, including VinylCon, Lone Wolf and Cub at Alamo Drafthouse, Deradoorian live at Zebulon and more.

Last weekend, TOMATA, the retrospective exhibition of late artist, and lead singer of seminal L.A. punk band The Screamers, opened at MutMuz gallery. I went to the opening and it was so cool that I ended up going back to the gallery this week. The show runs until next month, so check it out if you’re in Chinatown.

Also this week, I posted my interview with Sam Wachman, author of The Sunflower Boys, a terrific coming-of-age novel set at the start of the war in Ukraine.

Today, I posted my interview with Satanic Puppeteer Orchestra, whose show at Exotikon a few months ago really captured my attention and prompted me to buy the vinyl edition of their album Have an Existential Crisis. The vinyl was pressed with parallel grooves to reveal two versions of the album, and it comes with a few pieces of merch, all of which reflect how weird life in the 2020s is.

Thanks for reading! See you on the dance floor.
