Saint Etienne, Modeselektor and More New Music
Last Friday, I played Nocturno’s New York party and, I’ll admit, I was pretty nervous about the gig. Although I had visited the city before, I had never DJed there. It was certainly different from playing in L.A. For one thing, L.A. parties typically start somewhere between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. and close by 2 a.m., where this one opened at 11 p.m. and went until 4 a.m. Still, the energy inside the venue, Le Poisson Rouge, was amazing. Check out the video I posted to Instagram if you’re curious.
This was a very short trip. I left Friday morning in Los Angeles and planned to be home late Saturday night. Nature had other plans, though. A storm hit shortly after I got through the TSA checkpoint at JFK. My flight was delayed and, ultimately, canceled. I ended up spending Saturday night and Sunday morning running from one gate to the next as subsequent flights were canceled. But, at least I was able to download the latest, and last, Saint Etienne album for company.
STUCK AT JFK AND LISTENING TO SAINT ETIENNE
The other album I’ve been listening to this week is actually a mix CD. Modeselektor just dropped their installment in the !K7 DJ-Kicks series and it’s fantastic. If Spotify playlists are boring the crap out of you, I highly recommend putting this on instead.

Another wonderful new album is Birds of Paradise from L.A.-based singer and multi-instrumentalist SAADI. We spoke recently about the album and the events that influenced it. Read the interview and, if you’re in L.A., maybe catch her live at Zebulon tonight.

Also playing tonight in Los Angeles is Lead Into Gold, who is part of the Cold Waves show happening at The Mayan. I spoke with Paul Barker before his gig at Slipper Clutch last month.

For those reading in Los Angeles, I’m not DJing this weekend, but have a handful of recommendations for you over on Beatique. That’s it for now. See you on the dance floor soon!
