Rain Parade, Annie and the Caldwells and More Music

Have you heard Annie and the Caldwells? The family band from Mississippi has an album, Can’t Lose My (Soul), out now on David Byrne’s label Luaka Bop. They’ve been remixed by the likes of Nicky Siano and Justin Strauss and have been earning rave reviews for their live shows. In early June, I caught Annie and the Caldwells at Zebulon in what is one of the best concerts I’ve seen this year (so far) and had the chance to connect with Annie for an interview.

This week, I spoke with Matt Piucci of Rain Parade, whose 1985 sophomore album, Crashing Dream, was recently released as a deluxe edition reissue and is available on CD and vinyl, in addition to digital. It’s a fantastic album that includes a smattering of live recordings and demos from the era. If you’re at all a fan of psychedelic pop and rock, definitely give Crashing Dream a listen.

I’m working on a backlog of interview to post over at Beatique, so check back next week because there’s a lot more coming your way.

As for DJ gigs, I’ll be at Catch One for Nocturno on Friday. Tickets are going fast, so get yours on Dice before they’re gone. For other clubs, concerts and film screenings happening in L.A. this weekend (and early next week), check out these recommendations.

That’s it for this week’s update. Have a great weekend and I hope to see you on the dance floor.
