Mondays Nights Opens This Saturday

On Saturday, August 2, Monday Nights: L.A.’s Scene of the Century 2005-2016, opens at Leiminspace in Chinatown. The photo exhibition highlights Sean Carnage’s Monday Nights, a DIY show series that, over the course of a decade, showcased local bands like Health, Captain Ahab, Abe Vigoda and The Mae Shi, as well as touring artists, amongst them Dan Deacon, Future Islands and Chelsea Wolfe. I’ve been working on the show for a good while now with Sean and co-curator Miguel Rodriguez and can’t wait for people to see it. Tomorrow’s opening party is from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and the show runs through August 23.
After the opening, I’ll be playing a short-and-sweet disco set at Apotheke, also in Chinatown, for DJ Dirtie B’s Disco Decadance birthday party. All information for both events, plus my recommendations for concerts, club nights and film screenings are below.
MONDAY NIGHTS OPENS THIS SATURDAY, PLUS MORE HAPPENING IN L.A., 7/31-8/06/25
Beyond this week, I’ll be back at Catch One for Nocturno on Friday, August 8 and tickets are available now on Dice.
There’s also a super cool exhibition happening at La Plaza de Cultura y Artes spotlighting decades of East L.A. music history. I checked out “A Great Day in East L.A.” last weekend and definitely plan to head back. The exhibition is up until August of next year, so there’s plenty of time to see it.

There’s a lot of new music to check out right now, including Fever Ray’s The Year of the Radical Romantics, plus new releases from Nuovo Testamento, Mark Stewart and more.
Also, be sure to check in with Beatique regularly. There are a bunch of new stories ready to run next week and throughout August.
Until then, I hope to see you on the dance floor.
