Hi, everyone, it’s Liz O. here. I finally managed to knock off one item on my 2026 to do list and merged my old email list with the current one. So, if this is the first email you’ve received from me in about a year or so, that’s why.

Today is the first anniversary of David Lynch’s death and Tuesday marks what would have been the beloved director’s 80th birthday. So, while there have been and will continue to be lots of David Lynch-related events throughout January in Los Angeles, the bulk will be taking place this weekend and early next week. I pulled together as many as I could find that still have tickets available. You can find them in the roundup below.

And, if you’re looking for an art break, head over to Craft Contemporary to check out the mid-20th century art and design of Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman. I really loved this exhibit, which is up until mid-May.

As for new music, Dry Cleaning released Secret Love last week and that’s quickly becoming part of my regular rotation at home. It’s a little punk, a little funk, a little pop and even a little folk and, really, I think it captures the darkness of right now. Full review is linked below.

Album Review: Dry Cleaning Secret Love

This week, Xiu Xiu released a new album comprised entirely of super creepy covers of songs by everyone from Robyn to Throbbing Gristle. Sylvia Black, who has played with loads of people, released a fantastic, Siouxsie-ish solo album, Shadowtime. Sleaford Mods dropped their latest full-length, The Demise of Planet X and Tigra and SPNCR released an EP that reunites The Lady Tigra with L’Trimm pal Bunny D.

Also out this week is a new, expanded reissue of Whichever Way You Are Going, You Are Going Wrong, the 1982 debut album from seminal synth duo Woo. I spoke with Clive Ives about the early days of collaborating with his brother Mark on music that brings together electronic and acoustic instruments. “In our early days, there was quite a limit to what we could do. I can look back and say, wow, there was a certain charm about that. It forced you to be more inventive,” he says. Read the whole interview over at Beatique.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for reading!
