Club Underground Tonight + Purity Ring, Simon Raymonde and More

I’m going to keep this week’s newsletter fairly short. Tonight, I’ll be DJing at Club Underground, playing the best in indie, post-punk, darkwave, new wave and Britpop. Advance tickets are available now, and at the door tonight. For those of you who are going to the sold out Cut Copy show at the Bellwether tonight, stop by Grand Star Jazz Club afterwards and your ticket from the concert will get you in for $5. (Also, if you’re going to Cut Copy, do be sure to check out opening act Ora the Molecule, who is one of my 2025 faves.)
Speaking of shows, did anyone else see Purity Ring at The Novo this week? This was my first time seeing the duo live and their performance and stage show completely exceeded my expectations. It will definitely go down as one of my concert highlights of this year.

Last weekend, Mariachi El Bronx played La Cita. It was a tightly-packed show and the band, who will release their first new album in a decade, introduced a couple new songs in addition to playing a handful of fan favorites.

There are also a couple new Beatique interviews that I wanted to share with you. Simon Raymonde is about to release his memoir, In One Ear, in the U.S., so we talked a little about his time with the Cocteau Twins, but mostly just about music.

Today, local band Kim Theory releases their debut EP, Bitch Scene. The band named themselves in honor of Kim Deal, Kim Shattuck and Kim Gordon, and you can hear the influence of the three Kims in their songs.

That’s it for this week. Hope to see you on the dance floor tonight at Club Underground.
