YOUR TENTH BULLETIN FROM BART
Happy Croctober! How will you celebrate? I purchased a new Lightning McQueen Jibbit for my crocs recently so I will be showing that off. Where did my Lightning McQueen obsession come from? I don’t truly know, but the ironic interest to earnest interest pipeline is a slippery slope I often fall trap to. Someone buy me this shirt.
Listening
If you haven’t watched Reservation Dogs yet, you’re in luck! It’s Rez-tober for you, friend. The series just ended and you can burn through it quickly; there are 3 seasons. I don’t necessarily recommend doing that though, many episodes are emotional and some of the most affecting television that I’ve seen in recent years. The show has some great comedic acting from some previously unknowns as well as many recognizable indigenous character actors. It’s really quite good. My favorite episode is S2.9 Offerings. The soundtrack for all seasons features indigenous artists too.
There There, Mali Obomsawin and Magdalena Abrego
This first song is from the last season and was so well paired with the exposition that I had to pause the show and find the song right then. Mali Obomsawin has some incredible jazz music too. I recommend her album Sweet Tooth.
The second is from an artist that did a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s Time After Time at the end of Offerings. The recording had not been released but it lead me to this song which I have listened to a lot this year. It’s got a very appealing rhythm; if you like nodding your head to music this song is for you.
Watching
Last month I went to visit my family in Salt Lake City. It was recently my niece’s birthday and I thought it would be nice to visit and spend time with her and my family . My brother and I had a lot of quality conversations and one lead him to introducing me to the work of Alan Resnick. There are two infomercials that aired on Adult Swim that are both surrealist and chaotic. At first watch, it’s weird and unsettling, however, if you make time for explainer videos you can dive headfirst into an obsession that leaves you confused and chilled but ultimately satisfied. It’s a great Creep-tober activity! I’m embarking on an hour and a half explainer for the 12 minute This House Has People in It video this week. May I make it to the other side without catching Lynks disease.
Eating
Tofu mousse has become a fave of mine. I usually flavor it with peanut butter and cinnamon but this pumpkin one looks seasonally appropriate. Happy Oc-tofu to you!
Have you tried Mung Beans? They’re good! High in protein.
This delighted me
This was an ad I came across recently and I cannot stop thinking about it:
He’s a 6, but he’s Red Meat Famous.
Have a good Shaqtoberfest and I’ll catch you in November!
