January 2023
YOUR FIRST BULLETIN FROM BART
What the F is this?
This will be a monthly newsletter with reccos and things to pique your interest. I’ve been organizing and editing myself down to what you’ve received here today; the format may change. We might not hit our stride until the May bulletin.
I have been putting off a project like this for years. There is always a part of me that worries it’s too much of a narcissistic pipe dream to have a blog or youtube channel despite enjoying any content put out by people I know and respect. The more time I spent on social media the less I wanted to share about myself.
It was encouraged of me from multiple angles this past year to share with you my good1 taste and penchant for trend forecasting. I hope you enjoy something you find here today and in the coming months. Nothing is an affiliate link. Capitalism sucks, If you are interested in paying to subscribe, I’d be grateful but it is not a requirement to read.
Without further ado:
Something to hear-
Anything But Me- MUNA Shout out to my sibling who is now officially divorced. A close friend recommended this song for a Divorce Empowerment playlist. I can’t stop listening to it! Been feeling the vibe of a song that has building, forward energy this month. I think we’ve all had a relationship ending where you required this kind of Kindly, Fuck You vibe. Remember when we all had breakups when Somebody that I Used to Know was playing in every cab and bodega?2 It has that energy but for a new era. (Apple Music linked in song title).
Something to do-
January Cure with Apartment Therapy. “The January Cure is a completely free 20-day program all about resetting your home for the year ahead.” via Apartment Therapy
Daily, approachable assignments to get your act together. Do it with someone. I’m doing it- I’ll even check in with you if you want. It’s really great peer pressure to get the prompts daily. If you’ve never done The Cure before, it will reorganize your brain in a way to better serve your home going forward. My biggest take away from past years is to keep an ongoing Note with a running list of apartment To Dos.
Starts Jan 2 but you can start it whenever you damn please. Once they post the assignment you can read it and see it on a printable calendar.
Reading-
The MetroCard’s 28 Years As a Blank Canvas -my last MetroCard was the 125 year NYPL anniversary Snowy Day card .
Smelling Salts Wikipedia Article -DYK hockey3 players sniff smelling salts?— poppers vibes…but opposite.
5 Trends That Apartment Therapy Editors Want to See in 2023 4 (I predict more crochet in home decor and fashion but I haven’t put my finger on it just yet. Doileys are trending. Thinking intensely about what the new status throw pillow will be).
And Eating-
A Dozen Cousins Mexican Cowboy Pintos. This is one of my favorite flavor explosions. One can purchase them from many locations but Trader Joes is a bi-weekly haunt of mine. I serve them as part of a “bowl”. I make a lot of “bowls”- it’s a pile of 4 or so foods you can easily meal prep then slop together in a bowl or packable lunch container. Highly microwavable. Nutritional Variety.
I like Mex beans, sautéed kale, air fried sweet potatoes, brown rice
A Quote-
“There are years that ask questions and years that answer.” ~Zora Neale Hurston, Their Eyes Were Watching God.
What was 2021 for you? What will 2023 be for you?
And that’s it. You made it to the end of the Bulletin! Thank you for reading. What will become the big thing in January that I talk about in February? stay tuned. I promise photos next month.
if you need a reference I’ll have someone reach out to you.
these are the top locations I have absorbed radio in the last 15 years, maybe you still listen to radio on your Sony Dream Machine.
I’ve gotten into NHL this year.
This is not an Apartment Therapy psyop. I just have been reading a lot of it lately as we approach the new year. I work for a furniture company. Never not thinking of The Home.
