August 2023
YOUR EIGHTH BULLETIN FROM BART
I’m going to be off for most of August, having a Summah. For our August bulletin we’re doing a choose your own adventure. Pick something and enjoy it this month:
Listening
I heard this at Trader Joe’s and was pissed that TJs continues to be a cool, horny place to be. WTF Joe.
Dustin Lynch-Stars Like Confetti
A real toe tapper of a modern country song. Rhyming Chevy and confetti? Inspired. Why is there nostalgia for pick-up trucks I haven’t driven? Should I get a pick-up truck? I hate cars! why do I want like 3 more?
I learned recently about the top streaming songs chart on Spotify and it’s an alarming display of confounding options (looking at you Ed Sheeran). But our friend Dula Peep is on there and I can groove with that. This song rules.
Reading
Not a ground breaking article but interesting to read on paper and food for thought. Psychology Today comes up all the time in my Artifact.News. Reminds me of:
The House in the Cerulean Sea-TJ Klune

I had not heard of this author before I picked this up. It was a recco from the library and I read it quickly. It was thoroughly enjoyable! I believe it’s geared towards young adults but don’t discount it for that reason. There are a bunch of magical kids and I have an intense fondness for the main kid.
On Summer Crushing by Hanif Abduraqib
Hanif is from my home town and I enjoyed following him on twitter when it was a fun place to be. I occasionally seek out his writing when I need a dose of feelings or nostalgia.
Eating
Ikea makes frozen meals.

The plant based one is not only delicious but actually looks like real food. They moved the food to the liminal space between the warehouse and the marketplace so you’re forced to pass by the food. It’s such a genius merchandising move; I am quite frankly concerned they hadn’t thought about it sooner! Don’t get sucked into the frozen salmon steaks; they looked great but are like, twice the cost of salmon at Von’s1. I don’t eat salmon but I was curious and did the research for you. I’ve heard the mustard is good though.
Air Fryer Crisp
You can make a fruit crisp in the air fryer and it doesn’t take much effort. I’ve been using plum/ apricot hybrids (pluots, plumcots, apriums etc) and it’s delicious! I follow this recipe ingredient list. Cooking is vibes. Baking is precision. I’m a vibes chef. I’m sure I read the recipe at one time but you just dump shit together and pop it in the air fryer. Enjoy.
Stadium Mustard

Do you like hot dogs? you’ll like this mustard. It’s a Cleveland thing. It’s the best mustard for a dawg. Maybe get the ikea mustard and this mustard and have a tasting. Let me know your findings.
This Delighted Me
Schmidt’s Gay came up in conversation recently. Revisiting vintage SNL commercials is always worth your time. I recommend Dog Show and Harry Carrey sketches as well.
MUNA on Lovett or Leave It (Anyone want to goss about Jon and Roman splitting up I’m here for it!)
I’ve seen this done before but the good ol Try Guys were more prolific than I was expecting on the subject.
Hope you find something to amuse you this August. I’ll catch you on the flip side! -Bart
I’ve been told Von’s is overpriced but I find they have a good selection of some hard to find items that I require, so I go there more than Ralph’s. REGIONAL GROCERY STORES, AM I RIGHT??
