“As of Sunday evening, the major media outlets are treating the states’ gerrymandering battle as if it were the 2026 midterm elections. It is not. True, gerrymandering will likely affect some races at the margins in a wave election. But the midterm election will be decided by tens of millions of Americans who are fed up with Trump and motivated by righteous anger and a deep sense of betrayal. Still, the partisan battle has become irresistible to the media, as political insiders rush to their favorite reporters with gossip that matters only to the consultants and pundits who peddle it.

Do not be distracted. We are winning. Trump is in freefall. While we cannot rely on Trump and his sycophants to defeat themselves, neither should we be misled into believing that the gerrymandering battle will be more important than massive voter turnout in 2026. We have an election to win. Focus on that task, and let voting rights activists, lawyers, and state legislators fight the gerrymandering battles.

Ignore the noise. Be the signal.”
