Hello all. January’s film showing will see the second birthday of Burntwood Afternoon Cinema, and I would like to thank everyone involved for the work they put into running our little community event. In particular, I want to note the work put in by the volunteers that set up the room, man the door and, especially, serve the tea, coffee and biscuits. I hope you’ll join with me in a show of appreciation.

I Swear - 20th January at 2pm

Join us at Burntwood Afternoon Cinema on Tuesday, 20th January, for I Swear, a powerful and critically acclaimed British film that tells the remarkable true story of John Davidson. The film charts his inspiring journey from a bullied Scottish schoolboy struggling with severe Tourette's syndrome to a celebrated MBE-winning campaigner who transformed public understanding of the condition. Hailed as "a triumph of storytelling and compassion," it's a frank, funny, and deeply moving story of resilience and acceptance.

Featuring an outstanding, "knockout" performance from Robert Aramayo as the adult John, alongside a stellar cast including Maxine Peake and Peter Mullan, this is one of the most talked-about British films of the year. With a rare 100% critics' rating, it's an opportunity to see a film that both entertains and fosters genuine understanding. As always, come along to our warm and friendly community cinema for good company and a proper cuppa with biscuits from 1:30pm.

Please be advised: The film is rated 15 and contains strong and frequent offensive language. This is an authentic and necessary part of portraying Tourette's syndrome and is central to John's story, not gratuitous.

Paul’s note: I’m really glad to be able to bring this film to BAC. It’s by far the most powerful, emotional and uplifting film I’ve seen in many years. You will laugh, but you’ll also need some tissues for the tears. See you on Tuesday.

Come along to our warm and friendly community cinema, where you'll find good company and a proper cup of tea with biscuits. It's more than just a film; it's a chance to share a final, memorable moment with old friends.

Tickets are just £5 – because the best stories are even better when shared with friends.

You can buy online at https://aard.at/bwoodfilms, on the phone at 01543 412121, or in cash on the door.
