What will you see at BLON?

This September, the big screen at BLON fills with animation from around the world – different voices, techniques, stories and ways of seeing the world.

At the heart of this year's animation programme are five competition programmes, with feature films, special screenings and plenty of premieres.

There’s a lot to discover over four festival days!

The BLON competition programmes are a chance to discover what is happening in animation right now – from new talents finding their voice to established filmmakers pushing the medium in unexpected directions.

Expect personal stories and absurd humour, bold experiments and beautifully crafted worlds, films that tackle what is happening around us and others that turn their attention inward.

Animation without borders. Discover distinctive films and voices from around the world, bringing together different techniques, perspectives and ways of telling a story.

A closer look at animation being created around the Baltic Sea and Nordic region — a programme full of distinctive visual languages, surprising ideas and stories from our creative neighbourhood.

What does Lithuanian animation look like today?

Personal and experimental, sometimes tender, sometimes absurd, speaking about what is happening around us and inside us. From memorable work by emerging filmmakers to films by experienced animation authors, the programme brings together different generations, techniques and approaches to storytelling.

And this year, seven films will have their Lithuanian premieres at BLON.

How do you tell stories about life when the world you once knew has changed beyond recognition?

Nine animated shorts explore life shaped by war, migration, family memory, identity and the longing for connection – through intimate stories, imagination, absurd humour and bold animation.

Great animation for younger eyes — and this time, young viewers get to decide.

The programme brings together films selected for younger audiences, while the winners will be chosen by a jury of school students from Klaipėda.

This year's feature programme brings five very different animated worlds to Klaipėda — from an animation classic based on an iconic graphic novel to imaginative contemporary stories for younger viewers and the whole family.

Beyond the competition programmes and feature films, two special selections offer another way into the world of animation – through stories of connection for younger audiences and distinctive voices from Southern Europe.

Discover independent animation from Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Spain. Created through the FAN network of five Southern European animation festivals, the programme brings together bold new voices and established filmmakers — and a diverse selection of stories, perspectives and animation styles.
