Did you survive the snow?
When last we spoke, a grandmother of a storm was bearing down on, well, much of the country. We got something like 14 inches and it was stupid cold afterward, so the snow has hung around for a while. The good news is we’ve had some warmer weather, the streets are clearer, and maybe that little groundhog was wrong like he is so many times.
The better news is that there are, no matter the weather, books and bookish activities to fill our time.
Little Red Flags drops today
I can just see convention season as it peeks over the horizon of the future. (In fact, I’ve already RSVP’d to ReaderCon and booked my room.) If you’d like to get in the spirit, you could do worse than my story “Con and Consequences” in Little Red Flags: Stories of Cults, Cons, and Control, which is released today! I’m especially excited to see this anthology because it’s the first time my work has been published among thrillers (rather than fantasy or horror) and I’m curious to read the other offerings and see how they relate to the genre and theme.
Virtual hangout this Thursday

On February 19th, 20:00 (That’s 8pm to those of you who didn’t decide to adopt Starfleet time in high school) I and five of my colleagues will present a sampler of spec-fic. You need to register, but it’s totally free and on Zoom, so no driving required. I’m going to be reading from (and giving away a copy of) The Glass Garden. There will be a Q&A after the reading. And did I mention the giveaways? Join us, won’t you?
Another drop next month
How cool is it that we’re in a year with not one, not two, but three Fridays the 13th? Next month I have a story in Encounters with Cryptids called “Must Work for Scale.” Hard copies should be on sale March 13th, and the editor has shared some exciting images with us of the final product. The Kindle version is up for preorder now.
Well, tomorrow starts Lent, so excuse me while I dig out pancake recipes for tonight (I’m thinking double-chocolate, maybe with raspberries?) and start compiling my meatless go-tos for Wednesday and beyond.
