ArtAtomic Newsletter December 2024
ArtAtomic: Art+Science+Code by Kristin Henry
At in-person events, I’ve been telling folks that I hope to send out at least one newsletter a year. If I get this one written, I will have exceeded my goal and actually sent out two newsletters this year.
2024 was a challenging year, as I found myself in a battle with Cancer. With the help of amazing medical care…I won!
I kept my schedule as free as possible for most of the year, because I wasn’t sure how much energy I would have for any given event. Or if I would have to cancel, at the last moment.
As I recovered, my strength and energy grew. I was drawing, for as much as I could, day after day. I also started drawing much larger pieces. I experimented with different types of watercolor paper, and found that I prefer Arches cold pressed watercolor blocks. Somehow, it was one of the most artistically productive years of my life.
I did a few in-person events, including the San Francisco Zine Fest. But my biggest wonderful event was the Maker Faire! After all these years, it seemed like folks were really appreciating my works. I felt so energized by the full three days!
So, what’s up for 2025? I plan to practice as much Radical Joy as I can. To connect with people, and make art.
One of my favorite creative challenges starts in January: #Genuary! The prompts are out now, so if you enjoy creative coding, check them out and see if any of them inspire you. I’ll be posting what I create from the prompts on my Patreon and Ko-fi, and sharing them on Mastodon.
I’m also hoping to do more in-person events this coming year, and possibly start offering some of my art on my Square website. Near the top of my to-do list is to update my portfolio site, so that it features more of my art.
In closing, my thoughts on the passing of President Jimmy Carter:
“I'm so grateful to have had Jimmy Carter as a role model in my life.
One of the most important things he taught me? That we may loose the big battles, to the unscrupulous and power hungry.
But we continue to do our best, for as many, at any scale, that we can. Little by little, we can make positive differences in lives of so many folks.
This can be as simple as saying thank you, or life changing as building a house for someone else...again and again.”
