Celebrations

You made it through [today / this month / ten decades] — a cause for celebration. Before you uncork the Champagne, spend some time with this one story that’s about the power of photography to capture a moment and a reminder of all the context a single photo misses.

Great stories accommodate layers, and what’s below the surface here is a map for how to choose joy (hint: friends!) despite horrible difficulties.

If you aren’t exulting in the mere end of a day or month, try a holiday invented for social media (happy National Fruit At Work Day to those who celebrate). I don’t subscribe to this nonsense, but thankfully, American Archives Month pre-dates the internet fakery.

For cake, try one of Emily Dickinson’s recipes. As a party favor, I’ve updated the resource list I created a few years ago for a CreativeMornings talk to inspire an archives angle for your next big idea, whether it’s a gargantuan research project or “a garden on top of a sheet / of fondant.”
