Collective News: Rehauls and a FORUM?!

Hello, everyone! Long time no write!

It has been tough these past few months to give hearty updates, due to working on behind the scenes prepping for future Aradia news—one of these being more additions to the Aradia Archives, especially those listed on our Roadmap to Magic! and finally getting to upload archives on our Internet Archive account. We mentioned this in our last newsletter, and we haven’t forgotten. It has just been a lot! Our first upload will hopefully be for Magical Boys by Kathy Hassinger and Jessica Probst. We are trying to provide both a copy of the site as well as the art and comics from the archived site. We also simply don’t want the art and comics to lose the context of the story, especially when some of the comic pages simply are broken in the archived site. We are trying our best to do a soft template for the uploads, with text and art, so that way, future readers can be served well!

Side news: last year in August, we managed to get in contact with Joe Curzon, webmaster for Magical Boys, after much searching! After the initial positive reply, we waited for a confirmation of further conversation and interview. Near the end of August, we sent a follow-up email to Curzon, and then again in the beginning of October. Unfortunately no more reply has come, so we are saddened to say that for now, this lead has died.

The other has been preparing the first steps to announce ARADIA BEAT Vol. 2! We have been working on a site for ARADIA BEAT in general, to make it easier for everyone to have the information at hand. We have also been trying to resolve the issues we’ve had with our main site. Thankfully, after some consultation for another piece of future Aradia news, we’ve been able to fix our site!

Submit Your Magical Girl Comic!

Banner picture showing the Aradia mascot holding a comic titled "Your Comic", about to shove it into a red mailbox that says "Submissions." Text above them says "we're open for submissions." To their right/our right, there is text and a logo. It says the following: Aradia: A Magical Girls Comic Collective To join the witches and wizards of the funny books, visit our website at aradiacollective.com and click on "APPLY"!

Hello, everyone! After some time, we have finally opened our submissions once again!

Aradia Collective for Magical Girl Comics

Aradia Collective is a comic collective dedicated to promoting, creating and archiving magical girl comics.

We are open to all magical girl comics of all sorts, so long as they match what we look for! We ask you to read our Approval Process, so you know what to expect when we eventually get to all submissions! We have updated it a bit, mainly no accepting comics made with generative AI.

Aradia Beat updates, zines, and social media

Hello, everyone! Long time no see! We have a lot of updates for you today!

SOCIAL CREATURES

The first one is the longest one: much like everyone who sees the writing on the wall and doesn't live near the river (de)Nile, we've scaled back our usage of Twitter. It's disheartening, given that it's the only site where our updates and promo have been the most successful but as of now, it's also competing with Tumblr for "least visibility"--and Tumblr is winning. We are worried that for our second future Aradia Beat venture, we may not be able to be successful but we'll cross that bridge if/when we get to it.

Unlike most companies or people, however, we have chosen to not be on Threads or Bluesky. It would be too many links to provide as sources, but Threads and Bluesky have too many risks for us to consider using them, not less being privacy and data concerns. (Bluesky even causes your blocklist to be public!) Instagram has become a "happy bots DMing us after every post" landscape, but there, the damage was already done long before Threads existed. As for Bluesky, we recognize that we are shooting ourselves in the foot, given that now everyone has chosen that to replace Twitter (for the moment) and thus, it's where all the "eyes and ears" are. Would it be useful for the second Aradia Beat and all future ventures to be on Bluesky? Yes, of course. But we truly do not feel comfortable being on Jack Dorsey's reroll at another Twitter. We also don't think that a site that hides your profiles and requires you to make an account in order to be able to see others' profiles is worth anything. If we cannot see what you can provide for us, is it truly really any good?

ARADIA BEAT Kickstarter -- only 10 days left!

Hello, everyone!

Lots of things have happened for us on the homefront! We launched our Kickstarter for our new venture on January 19th: ARADIA BEAT, a new magazine anthology dedicated to magical girls! The campaign is for our first volume, and the book itself is completed; this is just to fund its printing. Different tiers contain different goodies, but the magazine comes with a free bookmark! Wowie zowie!

In the first two days, we received about $1,000 quickly, considered a fresh favorite by Kickstarter before having become tagged with one of their "#ProjectWeLove", well, tag! This was fantastic! We hoped this meant news could spread further and faster. In fact, we were hoping we would have been funded by now, as our goal is $3,500 but no such luck.

Sites, sites and more sites?!

Hello, everyone!

For our first newsletter, we'd first like to say: thank you for following! We hope to use this as an alternative to social media announcements (with the hope that we also don't forget to tell you on here!), so that means that we don't get to spam you too much!

Today's newsletter is a hefty one, though, so buckle up!
