✨ IN AWE: October
Happy October! If you’re receiving this, you’re subscribed to my newsletter: In Awe, where I share a little glimpse into what has me in awe lately: the ordinary, the unexpected, the beautiful, the strange, and the things that make me remember I’m alive.
This is the free version of In Awe and you can always upgrade to paid to get 2 personal essays per month plus quarterly intuitive group readings/workshops.
🌹Moments of Awe:
-Seeing my son Ari bond with his pre-school teacher and remember all his teachers names! So precious.
-The sunrise from my new backyard. After living in a concrete jungle for two plus years, I’m so dang grateful to have grass I can stick my feet in to start off my days
-The kindness of strangers I’ve been meeting while walking in my new neighborhood. It’s amazing how a small amount of authentic connection without expectation with new people can fuel me to be more open and curious.
🎵 Music I’m loving:
-For months I’ve been listening to “Man I Need- Remix” by Hiko on repeat. Such a good pump up song.
-Noah Kahan instrumental playlist to get me in a fall mood.
-Cortisol Detox playlist on spotify(or type it in anywhere) to get me out of the go, go, go mode Virgo season thrust upon me
-If I’m being totally honest..most of my music consumption lately has been about monster trucks, construction trucks and the Blippi show soundtrack. Ari is relentless with his car music requests. If you have any less annoying toddler approved tracks, hit me up lol.
📖 What I’m reading/listening to/ watching:
-Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke. I think everyone and their mother is reading this.I jumped on the bandwagon and am Happy I did! I listened to the audiobook version and it entertained me through packing, moving and unpacking into my new home. It’s a sharp, feminist exploration of the trad-wife movement which has been a current fascination of mine.
-Diabolical Lies Podcast (one of the hosts is the author of Yesteryear) I especially appreciated the episodes on trad wives and Skinnytok that looks at these cultural experiences from a feminist lens.
-Hester by Laurie Lico Albanese is a novel reimagining of The Scarlet Letter that centers the woman behind the legend, exploring female creativity, desire, independence, and the ways women’s gifts and unconventional lives have historically been policed and punished. I’m half way through and it’s captivating especially during “witchy” season.
-Rick Rubin’s interview on Diary of a Ceo. What a legend. It reminded me of the importance of connecting to our inner world first when doing anything creative.
-The newest season of Married at First Sight takes place in Seattle so that’s fun. It’s a trash show but what can I say? I love to see strangers marry and the drama that ensues.
-Ted Lasso has been the comfort show I watch with my husband. So many vital life lessons gently delivered :)
🍋 What I’m eating:
-Sweet Potato Quinoa Salad I made for a labor day pool party- I added almonds and feta-yummm.
-Cottage cheese pancakes have been a hit in our household especially since it’s a challenge to get Ari (let’s be honest.. or me) to eat protein. We add chocolate chips, because duh. And sometimes vanilla extract, cinnamon, peanut butter-go wild.
-A Portland specific rec: The Whole Bowl for a quick lunch or din. With extra sauce. It hits every time.
🔮 Intuitive empowerment thangs:
-I recently moved and had the opportunity to set up my new altar. I did it differently than I have in this past. Instead of one big altar, I did 3 different mini altars on a shelf: one for my Ancestors, one for my romantic relationship and one for my creative relationship to self. Feels right to have intentional sections to come and pray to/meditate with. Maybe it’s time to create an altar or freshen yours up?
-Thanks to a recommendation from Alex Franzen, I wrote myself a 100 day letter. Basically you write yourself a letter as if it’s 100 days from now and name everything that has taken place. This was such a potent way to intuitively name my goals/ desires and practice anchoring into them by reading the letter daily until that 100 day mark. I’ve done this in the past and it’s beautiful how much came to fruition.
