Après le déluge

"What's an ark?"

After two nights at the Best Western we returned home. Thankfully Hurricane* Post-tropical storm Lee didn’t do too much damage to our house. Aside from the large part of our roof (see image above) that is now sitting in a bin on the back porch, and the big apple trees that are now apple-less.

So we’re now hunting for roofers. It’s looking, inexplicably, that we may get a Halifax roofer to come down here instead of the locals that can’t do anything until February.

In related news, there’s a big concrete block break-wall near us to protect the road to our house. About five years ago a number of people pointed out that this wall should have had a concrete foundation because the waves would eventually weaken the rocks underneath it.

They were right.

Beyond that, a lot of the weeds and such surrounding us have been pounded down, as has the vegetable/weed garden. And the rosehips are long gone on the front hedge.

As for us? Next time we stay home.

OK, Bill Cosby was a nasty evil abuser and scum, and shouldn’t have been released from jail, but “Noah” was all I could think of when watching the torrential, yet not QUITE hurricane rains from our hotel window.

* Per my editor at the Globe and Mail “We can’t say a hurricane hit there if it wasn’t a hurricane.”

Postscript: our power was only out for twelve hours. Some people are up to two days.
