Inunnguat - First Nations and Inuit

fahne.jpg

Inuksuk

Although the area around Resolute Bay was only sporadically occupied before 1953, there is archaeological evidence of earlier habitation before 1000 AD. The 1953 – 1955 relocation of Inuit from Inukjuak in Quebec and Pond Inlet in what is now Nunavut created the small settlement now known as Resolute Bay, or Qausuittuq.

It is critical that mistakes of the past not be repeated. All planning, construction, and occupation of northern cities must be done with the full support of local and national First Nations groups.
