Something Terse

A portrait of a man
Outtake of Michael Kiwanuka for The Guardian

It’s been a long time since I last wrote a newsletter, apologies for those who were anticipating one sooner.

In an earlier newsletter, I referenced the danger of predicting the end of a project so I won’t do so now, but I’ve had a relatively productive summer working on personal work and I do feel like there has been meaningful progress. I’ve also begun a new job as a technician at a secondary school which has been an enjoyable undertaking so far.

There are various moving parts to work through with my project and while I plan to try and continue with the making, there will be a few opportunities for those interested to see some it.

This newsletter arrives too late to notify you all about a recent panel talk I had with photographer and friend Hannah Norton, chaired by artist and educator, Becky Warnock. For those who managed to make it, thank you! We spoke about the role of photography in community and it was a nice reminder for me of how good panel mediation can provoke fresh thoughts about my work and take the way I articulate it and feel through it, in new directions.

If you missed that event but for some reason would still like to see me speak about my current work, I will be taking part in a talk on September 25 with Photojournalism Hub in Hammersmith, with the photographer and filmmaker Mark Chapman also speaking on the evening. Tickets are £5 and while I can’t promise riveting dialogue there should be pictures at the very least. More info can be found here:https://photojournalismhub.org/2024/08/28/photojournalism-hub-x-riverside-studios-25th-september/

Lastly, I’ve this mentioned before, but I am currently prepping for the end point of my development programme with GRAIN which will take place in Walsall in the form of an exhibition opening on October 26. This will be at the New Art Gallery in Walsall and if you can make the opening it should be a fun event with many amazing artists present. However if you’re keen to see the show, but can’t make the opening it will be running until March 2025.

I should be promoting some of these things on my Instagram as they get closer and I’ll hopefully have  another newsletter much sooner than the time between this one and my last. Until then, thanks for reading.
