The Big Night for Democracy.

Democrats won everywhere.

New York Times reports -

California ballot measure: Mr. Trump this summer called on Texas to redraw its congressional map to gerrymander five districts toward the Republican column. Mr. Newsom, who is weighing a 2028 presidential run, pushed for a ballot measure that would redraw California’s congressional map to counter Texas: five districts toward the Democrats. Polls suggest the measure, Proposition 50, is likely to pass. The question may be how many more blue states will answer the governor’s August call that “blue states need to stand up.” — Reid J. Epstein

Reality-Prop 50 won with 62% of the vote.

Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court: Three justices who were elected as Democrats to the State Supreme Court in Pennsylvania kept their seats for another 10-year term (or until they reach mandatory retirement age). The outcome means Democrats will hold on to their 5-2 advantage on the court through the next presidential election, a critical victory for Democrats in the biggest swing state in the country.— Nick Corasaniti

In Virginia, Abigail Spanberger, the first-ever woman to lead the commonwealth, was not the only winner. The Democratic candidates for Lt. Governor and Attorney General also won.

One more thing. or two. or three.

Did Trumpers really think that endorsements by Trump, Elon Musk, and, yes, Stephen Miller would lead to a mayoral victory for Andrew Cuomo? Zohran Mamdani, the elected first Muslim and first South Asian Mayor of New York, won 50.4% of the vote.

Mikie Sherrill, the first female Democratic Governor of New Jersey, not only won big (56.9% with 91% of the votes counted) over Trump-endorsed Jack Ciattarelli but brought the Democratic Party its first three-peat in the Governor race in the Garden State since 1965.

New Jersey, it is the honor of my life to earn your trust to become this great state’s 57th Governor.

I promise to listen, lead with courage, and never forget who I serve. pic.twitter.com/gipM0fWnqF

Abigail Spanberger, the first woman elected the Governor of Virginia, not only won big (56.9% with 94% of the votes counted), but she led a Democratic ticket which swept all 3 statewide positions: state Sen. Ghazala Hashmi, the first Muslim woman elected to a statewide office ever in US history, won the lieutenant governor's race, and Jay Jones beat an incumbent and won the attorney general race.

Democrats also increased their majority in the Virginia House of Delegates, moving from 51 to 64 seats (with one race still undecided as of 11 p.m.). Expect Virginia to follow California and redistrict to help Democrats win back the House in 2026.
