Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Annette’s Roundup for Democracy.

It’s been a long month in Minnesota and across the country.

Renee Nicole Good was murdered on January 7, 2026.

Renee Nicole Good was murdered on January 7, 2026.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti was murdered on January 24, 2026.

Alex Jeffrey Pretti was murdered on January 24, 2026.

Both were American citizens. Both were killed at the hands of federal immigration officers sent to Minneapolis by Donald Trump.

Both were immediately vilified by Donald Trump and his henchman Stephen Miller. Then multitudes of MAGA amplified the false and disgusting slanders against the 37 year old mother of 3, and the 37 year old VA nurse.

The Trump administration refused to allow Minnesota officials and police to investigate the murders.

But there were videos.

This Saturday, the day of the 2nd murder, the nation rejected the lies the Trump administration perpetuated.

The people began to react.👇

There were widespread and broad reactions.

Pam Bondi, head of Trump’s Department of Justice, made this egregious demand that Minnesota hand over its voter rolls.

The head of Trump’s Justice Department is an extortionist.

Minnesota turned her down.

The Governor of Minnesota, the Mayor of Minneapolis and the people of Minnesota (and elsewhere) called for ICE to leave.

the people of Minnesota (and elsewhere) called for ICE to leave.

Some Republicans reacted differently from Bondi, Trump, and MIller.

Some Republicans reacted.

Senator Rand Paul reacted.👇

Some Republicans reacted.

Although 7 House Democrats voted to fund ICE, Democrats in the Senate , including Leader Chuck Schumer, have vowed to shut the Government down, rather than fund ICE, in the budget vote due on January 30th.

(The House passed the Department of Homeland Security spending bill 220-207 on January 22 with the support of the following Democrats:
• Henry Cuellar
• Tom Suozzi
• Vicente Gonzalez
• Laura Gilles
• Marie Gluesenkamp Perez
• Jared Golden
• Don Davis)

Even the New York Times reacted.

Saturday, January 24th Day.

Even the New York Times reacted.

Below is the headline on the digital edition both on Saturday night and all day Sunday.

The Trump Administration Is Lying to Our Faces. Congress Must Act.

The Times called Trump a liar? Well, kind of.

As I type this on Monday night, Trump is doing his TACO dance, claiming his call with Governor Walz revealed they “seemed to be on a similar wavelength” - this after blaming Tim Walz for the deaths of Good and Pretti all weekend. Trump dispatched his border chief, Tom Homan, to oversee the immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis. It seems we will hear less from Kristi Noem, Trump’s rabid secretary of homeland security, who has been Trump’s echo of false accusations and lies at the site of both murders.

The New York Times described it this way - White House officials clearly understood that the killing, the second of an American citizen protesting the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis, posed one of the gravest political threats to Mr. Trump since his inauguration just a little over a year ago. Yet they seemed frozen in place, unwilling to walk back the statements by Mr. Miller and Ms. Noem, which were widely repeated throughout the administration…

Trump is Taco.

How to help Minnesota.

Donate to the Immigrant Law Center of MN which is providing assistance to hundreds of people with families detained by ICE, or the Immigrant Rapid Response Fund , a fund assembled by a coalition of Twin Cities Foundations committed to getting assistance out the door as quickly as possible.

One more thing.

The man who was the Republican candidate for Governor of Minnesota helped too.

Each in his or her own way.

Thank you, Mr. Madel.

Snow in NYC.

One more thing.

This ‘n That.

Some good. Some hateful. Some combos.

Good.

New Jersey supplies a new kind of leadership.

Hateful. Good they got the perpetrator.

A man is under arrest for assaulting U.S. Rep. Democrat Maxwell Frost, the first Z gen elected to Congress, at the Sundance Film Festival. The assailant shouted racist remarks at the Florida Congressman.
