Sunday, August 18, 2024. Annette’s News Roundup.
Today Eve and I are leaving Montauk, New York after 2 glorious months. So much has happened.
On July 21, one month ago, the best President of my lifetime, Joe Biden, announced he would not seek re-election and endorsed our Vice-President, Kamala Harris, to replace him.
A nation in pain became a nation with hope.
The Party united behind Kamala, certifying her as the Democratic presidential nominee on August 5th, 24 hours after the virtual voting of delegates began.
On August 6, Kamala picked Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota as her running-mate. He thanked her for “bringing back the joy.”
I do that everyday too.
This week, in Chicago, the Democratic National Convention will start on Monday. On Thursday, Kamala Harris will be formally nominated to be the Democratic Party’s candidate for President of the United States, with Tim Walz to serve with her as Vice President.
With regard to the Election, the news gets better daily, as the Democratic presumptive nominee gains strength in the critical swing states needed for a November 5th victory.
Yesterday’s New York Times reported -
Vice President Kamala Harris has stormed into contention in the fast-growing and diverse states of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina, not long after Donald J. Trump had seemed on the verge of running away with those states when President Biden was still the Democratic nominee.
The new polls from The New York Times and Siena College show how quickly Ms. Harris has reshaped the terrain of 2024 and thrust the Sun Belt back to the center of the battleground-state map.
Ms. Harris is now leading Mr. Trump among likely voters in Arizona, 50 percent to 45 percent, and has even edged ahead of Mr. Trump in North Carolina — a state Mr. Trump won four years ago — while narrowing his lead significantly in Georgia and Nevada.
Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris are tied at 48 percent across an average of the four Sun Belt states in surveys conducted Aug. 8 to 15.
And so, we leave Montauk with a smile, restored by the pleasures of the sea and the probability of a Victory for Democracy. Earlier in the year the world was darker.
Whatever you do, do your best to elect Kamala President of the United States.
Whatever you do, do your best to make sure Trump is not elected President of the United States.
When we fight, we win.
